If not everone is in focus, try switching to M or Av mode, and turningthe f number up, which will allow for a greater range of focus.

MY CAMERA (CANON 1000D) TAKES BEAUTIFUL DAYTIME PHOTO'S BUT CAN'T SEEM TO FOCUS ON A SUBJECT IN LOW LIGHT & AS A RESULT WONT TAKE THE SHOT. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO TAKE LOW LIGHT / NIGHT TIME SHOTS ?...

Focusing in low light can be difficult for the autofocus system and sometimes you will need to use the manual focus, you can select the magnified image and see if that helps
See the online manual - page98 refers to how to magnify the image - using the magnify button - changes between 5X 10X and full screen
To help the camera autofocus there is an assist beam - this takes the form of flashes from flash to help the AF system focus - make sure it is ON - there is a custom function full details on Page 157 C.Fn III: Auto focus/Drive 6 AF-assist beam firing
FYIThe support site for this camera is here, including online manual http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010629.asp

Appears in focus in viewfinder, but isn't

Change your focusing setting to spot focus. Then, focus on your main subject, keep the button half-way pressed while you re-compose the shot and then press it the rest of the way. Does that improve the shot?

My camera will not immediately take a picture.

The beep and no shutter action is usually because the auto focus is not focused. If you are using a zoom lens try backing up or unzooming a little.

LCD - Focus

DSLR camera was not made to be used as a point and shoot camera and you cant preview the shot before taking a picture. You are to use the eye piece to focus right. Also before taking a picture, push the exposure button just a little to let the camera focus right.

SONY DSC-H1 focus problems

I think the reason for that is that you are using a wrong focus type. I recommend you using wide focus (not sure if named it right) and make sure you have your steady-shot function on. To change focus type, just find the button next to the shot-button.

Help please

Is the lens moving/focusing?
If you switch to manual focus, can you make a shot?

Is it possible that "remote control" mode is selected (the button on top, right, in front of AF button) - in this mode the camera focuses but waits for the remote to shoot - just press the mode button until the LCD shows [S]

Using my camera

IMHO ---- A lot depends on the lighting available for shot, outdoor and bright is best. Use AP setting (dial on top), Aperture Priority, and set desired F number (using thumb wheel, top right edge) as high an F as you dare, taking speed used into account, by watching it change in viewfinder (do not want a shaky slow speed!). The depth of field, hopefully with higher F, will be deep enough to catch back and front rows, in focus. A half press on shutter should trigger auto focus and give chance to preview in viewfinder. Good luck hope the weather behaves. Less light = less flexibility.....
