Hi,

To my knowledge, Archos 605 uses FAT32 format and has a built-in restriction of file size of 4Gb. Pls make sure your converted videos are 4Gb or less. Otherwise you may have to try lower resolution.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

You can't transfer files larger then 2 GB due to the limitation of the FAT 32 file system the device uses, you can split the movie into parts smaller than 2GB to get it to transfer.

Supported formats
MPEG-4 ([email protected] AVI, up to DVD resolution) With optional plug-ins:
- H.264 up to DVD resolution and AAC sound;
- MPEG-2 [email protected] up to 10 Mbps (up to DVD resolution) and AC3 stereo sound;
- VOB

    The max resolution you can use is

    Max res for video files is 720 x 576 Try 720 x 398 or 720 x 300 Same bitrate

  • Ekse Jul 30, 2008

    I suppose you can also try 720 x 480

    Used these settings.

    Output Profile: DVD Video NTSC Movie (*.mpg)

    Video Aspect 16/9 (depending on your movie of course)

    Video Bitrate: 5000

    Audio Bitrate 192

    The rest is at default.

There’s a limit to the size of a single file on the Archos 605 (I think it’s like 4gb) because it uses FAT32, not NTFS (that’s Microsoft proprietary.)

    Even though the website claims Archos can play videos of DVD resolution it cannot play videos of such big resolution 800 x 480..To display the full DVD resolution, you would either
    have to buy the HD add-on plugin (presumably for $20 as it is not
    available yet), which allows resolution higher than 720x480, or to buy
    the MPEG2 plugin, which allows you to play a raw DVD VOB file...So also it plays videos of Square pixels,So try to reduce a bit of resolution to
    720x480....!!!!

    Hello Andrew,
    Better Reduce the Resolution of the video to 740 x 480 and the bit rate while Converting, so Your Archos can play the MOvie Completely and you can watch it...Also I hope the Embeded Subtitles in the movie(MP4) doesnt work for which you have to get a seperated Plug-in i guess...Thank you!!!

    Regards!!!....

How to convert videos/movies on to my archos 605 media player? keep getting an error message

The archos will only play M-peg 4 type files unless you buy on of the plug ins, so the way round it is to crack a dvd using "dvd shrink" this will get round the copy protection then convert the cracked dvd to m-peg 4 im using "any video converter" tese programs can be downloaded free on the net. not sure if this is the easiest way but it works

Archos 605 WiFi "Cannot play video! Please Check"...

This problem seems to occur when the device overheats. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but all my videos set at 720 by 480 wont play when the device is left running for a long period of time. The smaller video files, however, still play. I think it deals with the amount of system resources required for such files to play. If you turn the device off completely by going to menu, power, and turn off device, and leave it sit for 30 minutes, all files should play properly when you turn it back on.

As a suggestion, DO NOT leave your Archos powered on and on the dvr station. This causes the device to constantly run, and if you havent noticed the Archos operates at an extremely high temperature.
