I am trying to print directly on to envelopes, but everytime I hit print I just get an error message saying there is not the correct type of paper in tray one, when the whole time I am trying to tell it to print from the bypass tray.

Is best to set the tray to auto and then set the paper type. If you have already set up the printer with the correct settings it will pull from that tray automatically.

First recommended that you use the bypass tray on the right side, also before placing the envelope in the bypass tray send the print job over first, the screen will say replenish paper then go ahead and place the envelope on the tray. and let it take it or hit the start button Ensure you select #10 commercial media and bypass tray in your print driver preferences. May also want to have tech come out and look at the tray and run MAX and Min. Adjustments.
Load the envelopes in the bypass tray select paper on the copier control panel select by pass tray change tray select normal DO NOT select envelope select custom enter size, on printer preference select envelope tray and print
Place envelopes in either drawer 1 (top drawer) or the by-pass tray. Generally, the envelope is placed side to be printed down.
(On the printer you can set up custom envelope sizes.)
Select Print.
Click 'Properties' for the printer. In the resultant dialogue window, set the printer to print to the 'envelope' print path.
Click OK, click Print. (test print direction first)
Check your printed envelope. You may need to change the orientation of the envelopes to print with the opening at the top.
To get rid of error, unplug machine. Sett. the correct paper size ( size of envelope ), paper type (envelope ), both on printer properties ( when you prompted to print ) and on machine ( when you put envelope on bypass, machine auto ask you ). Do not forget to tell printer that he needs to take paper from bypass ( printer properties )
Try This :
Try printing from micrsoft word; Click on tools; Click on Envelopes and Labels Click on "OPTION" Under the TAB Envelope Option you will get Evelope Size; Scroll Down to the bottom you will get an option "Custom Size " Select it; Set the accurate size of the envelope; Click on Printing Options Select the Feed method and make sure you do it the same way; And then try to print this should resolve your Issue otherwise let me know Regards Soumajit
did you put these envelopes right way (portrait/landscape) also you have to change in printer menu paper source paper type from plain paper to envelope.
marglet, Turn-off and unplug the printer for a couple of minutes...there may be improper setting stuck in the printer memory. then plug it in and try to print the envelopes..if that doesn't work...Make sure there aren't any custom print settings causing this. Lastly...Try updating the drivers.
