Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

Sharp Camcorder Viewcam 8 Hi-fi Monaural VL-E34h. It works but won't show the recording. The sound is there but no picture.

troubleshoot this problem:

Check the Lens Cap: Ensure that the lens cap is removed. Sometimes, forgetting to take off the lens cap can result in a black screen.

Inspect the Recording Mode: Verify that the camcorder is set to the correct recording mode (e.g., video recording mode). If it's accidentally set to playback mode, you won't see live video.

Clean the Lens and Sensor: Dust or smudges on the lens or sensor can obstruct the video. Gently clean the lens with a soft cloth and ensure there's no dirt or debris.

Battery and Power: Make sure the battery is charged and properly inserted. Low battery levels might cause issues with video display.

Playback Mode: If you can see previously recorded videos during playback but not during recording, it might be a problem with the recording circuitry.

Viewfinder or LCD Screen: If your camcorder has a viewfinder or an LCD screen, check if it displays any information during recording. If it does, the issue might be with the main display.

Camera Settings: Access the camera settings menu and verify that the video recording settings (resolution, frame rate, etc.) are correctly configured.

Tape or Memory Card: If you're using tapes or memory cards, ensure they are properly inserted and not damaged.
Manual Focus: Check if the camcorder is set to manual focus. If so, switch it to auto focus.

Faulty CCD Sensor: The issue could be related to a faulty CCD sensor. Unfortunately, repairing or replacing the sensor might require professional assistance.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider consulting the user manual for further troubleshooting or contacting a professional technician.

RCA CC604 VHCS Camcorder. My old camcorder won't record?

Question edited into written English with punctuation.

The lens isn't black, the viewfinder is black. Connect it to a television or computer and see if playback and live recording is working. In that way you know the optics and the electronics are working. The viewfinder is a small LCD display screen with a magnifying glass in front of it. Take it to your local camera shop, they will know someone that still repairs these camcorders.

I was hoping to find a free PDF manual as I wondered if there is a switch or a setting to turn OFF the viewfinder?

When recording, no picture thru viewfinder or lcd panel. Records sound. Was working fine, just started this, and the lens cap is off. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

It could be either aperture is stuck or ccd imager chip is defective in your camcorder that will be replaced.
In bright light, look into camera lens, turn ON in camera mode and observe does aperture open like an eye?
If you notice some thing opens right in center of camcorder lens then aperture is working and ccd imager chip is bad that will be replaced.
Let me know model number of your Sony camcorder to provide you ccd imager part number info.
Thanks.

JVC Digital Video Camera GR-DVL107E

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.

No picture JVC GR-DF430US

Could easily be one of those picofuse which is a miniature fuse. Looks more like a small metal film resistor, except without the coloured bands. But SMD in Camcorders has now got so damm small, you cannot use a hot air tool without the risk of other parts moving, or loosing.. basically a Digital Camcorder has all the electronics of a PC mother board, shrunk into a small hand device, and also included a tape loading mechanism and a lens unit.. So I would suggest that you will get in touch with the JVC service agent, and see if they can extend the warranty, sometimes they will cover the Parts , but you will have to cover the labour..
