I'm trying a fresh install of Win XP SP1. Before installing the OS, I use the format utility of XP (CD at boot) to NTFS format my hard drive. However, the formatting gets stuck at 70% every time. The hard drive busy light is lit up solid. But it never gets past the 70% mark.
Should I be using another format utility to fix this problem?
Thanks
Your xp boot cd ,seems to be corrupted ,with system files missing, try another boot disk,or continue your installation process, from where your previous 70% ends.
Try another xp boot cd,your cd might not be correct, with some boot files missing.
Make sure your hard disk is error free Try formating the disk with FAT first ,if it doesn't work out the try disk utilities .
