Have a Kenmore Elite Advantium 120 Micrwave/Convection oven installed over top of Kenmore Elite Electric Range/Convection oven. Both units were installed new in Spring of 2003. The microwave oven is shot and the repair man said it is a fire hazard. Since we cook every night the unit can't take being over the stove because the internal parts on the microwave are not armored from the moisture and oils that come up and condense inside the microwave oven's control panel and caused it to short out. The repair would have been ~$800.00 if we allowed it to be done but the unit was $600.00 new. This unit has one of the famous knobs that does almost everything, and this is what went along with some other unidentified componets. Do I install a new simpler microwave with push button technology only, or just replace it with a overhead fan only and a counter top microwave? Seems that most if not all of the over the stove type microwaves have this problem if the stove is used alot under them. Tell me where I have gone wrong here besides my spelling?Have a Kenmore Elite Advantium 120 Micrwave/Convection oven installed over top of Kenmore Elite Electric Range/Convection oven. Re: over range microwave
Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:
- bad door switches or door switch mounts - loose connection at the magnetron - problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board - bad magnetron or other high voltage part
If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.
Many factors at play here. Are you cooking on the range? Are you using the microwave? Is the light on?
There is very little current going to the touchpad and if there were a short in it the touch pad would not work. It is just heat from another source. Don't worry about it.
All of a sudden last nigh it just started acting weird the panel works and the clock etc works as well as all the cooking setting. but it doesn't light up inside and when I close the door to my GE Profile Eterna Space maker it starts huiming like its cooking something
Never run the microwave without a load (something to heat)!!! That kills the microwave generating parts.
Sounds like a 'thermal' protect switch is activating after running. Make sure that (if the unit is mounted in a cabinet) that there is sufficient space around the unit for proper air flow and that nothing is blocking the vents. Try setting it on a counter top and heat something. If it works properly and doesn't shut off, the venting space is the problem. You may have to have the cabinet that it sits in redesigned for more clearance.
IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS RANGING FROM DIODES TO CAPACITORS TO YOUR MAGNATRON OR THERMOSTAST OR TRANSFORMERS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THIS MICROWAVE. YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF GETTING YOURSELF A DIFFERENT ONE.
What you are saying the microwave stop work like heating, but but the clock counts down.If it is stop heating then there is a rest on or near the magtrogron.Once it cools down it start back heating.Open and close the door will reset power to the magtrogen{sorry about the spelling].Look for loose connector,or replace the click zon it should have a small red buttom on it.
