Changing correction tape in model SL 105 I am attempting to put in a new correction tape in my Model SL 105. It appears to be moving, but I am getting no correction.

If the correction tape is moving and lifting there is a good possibility that the ribbon or correction tape are old and have changed composition or you have a non correctable ribbon.

I have replaced the ribbon cartridge and for some reason the entire cartridge will not sit back down in place. In other words, the letter wheel strikes the "erase" cartridge. I have tried and...

When the T/W is turned on does the ribbon go up and down or does it just stay in one place? Try it without the correction tape attached if it works then the correction tape is installed wrong. If it doesn't check the plug on the ribbon motor and give it a shot of WD40 on the upper and lower bearings (it is located under the ribbon deck at thr R. front.

Correctable Ribbon not working. Even tried putting new one in

If the correction is lifting and being struck by the hammer the correction tape may be on wrong, the dull side must face the ribbon. The other easy possibility is that the ribbon is very old or non correctable. It should have a yellow or orange knob not red or blue.

I installed new correction tape, but there's too much play in it. It keeps unravelling. I have no idea how to tighten it up. When I turn the take-up spool, it just unravels it more without tightening...

Verify that you have installed the proper correction tape. The types of tape that can be used with this system are: Item 1030 - Correctable Film Ribbon, 1230 - Correctable Film Ribbon 2pack, 1031 - Multi Strike Ribbon, 1032 - Nylon Ribbon, 3010 - Lift-off correction tapes (to be used with 1030 and 1230 ribbons), 4010 Cover-up Correction tape (to be used with 1031 and 1032 ribbons).
Make sure that the correction tape is installed properly. Pass the tape through the left guide, behind the ribbon guide and out through the right guide. The rough side of the tape should face the platen. Attach the feeder spool to the pin on the left. Attach the take up spool to the pin on the right. Turn the take up spool counter clockwise until a small amount of tape has wound around it. Replace the cassette ribbon and close the case cover. Press [CODE] + [RESET] to move the carrier to the previous position.

How to change the correction tape?

Changing the Correction Tape

1) Move the print carrier to the center of the platen using the SPACE or BS key.

2) To replace the correction tape, lift out the typing ribbon cassette (see Changing The Ribbon Cassette) and remove the two spools of the lift off tape by pulling them outwards.

3) Place the empty spool of new tape on the left pin so that the tape winds clockwise. Place the tape around the left guide. Pull the tape around the right

guide and place the loaded spool on the right pin so that the tape unwinds counter-clockwise.

Note: Make sure the sticky side of the tape is facing the platen.

4) Manually turn the left-hand spool in the clockwise direction, tightening the tape until resistance is felt.

5) Replace the typing ribbon cassette.
6) Press the CODE + = (SETTING) key.

Changing the Ribbon Cassette

1) Move the print carrier to the center of the platen using the SPACE or BS key.

2) Hold the ribbon cassette on both sides and lift up the front portion (where the ribbon is exposed) to remove the cassette.

3) To insert a new cassette, place the back end of the cassette on the cassette

holder on the carrier and gently press down on the front of the cassette unit it clicks into place.

4) Turn the ribbon feed knob counter-clockwise again to take up any slack in the ribbon.
5) Presss the CODE + = (SETTING) key.

Good Luck!

Have switch it on put paper in and new ink but its not typing on the paper

Check the ribbon first. Remove it and check that the ribbon is feeding properly (letters should be spaced evenly on the ribbon). Ensure the hammer is stiking the paper and that the correction(lift-off ) tape is not in front of the hammer.

Correction Tape

Two possibilities, one the correction tape is twisted and the wrong side is .facing the paper. The shinny side should be facing you, the dull side facing the paper. Second possibility you must make sure the ribbon is compatible with the correction tape. There are 2 types of ribbons. A correctable one (orange or yellow knob) and a multi strike (blue or purple knob on ribbon cartridge). The lift off correction tape (orange or yellow spools) only works with the correctable ribbon and the cover up correction tape (blue) works with the multistrike ribbon.
