My computer is not starting up at all. After some online research I discovered this model has had problems with faulty power supplies. So I replaced the 250 W with a 450 W. Still the same response, nothing except the flea power light on the mother board. Not even the fan on the new power supply is running nor the CPU fan. Different configurations of wiring from the power supply have all yielded the same results. The capacitors all look fine, no leaks or bulges. One thing though is that the paste/glue holding down the heat sink has deteriorated so that the heat sink is no longer seated and comes off. Would this affect start up power? Would replacing the paste make a difference? Do I have a bad CPU or motherboard?
The power supply was bad... Put a new one in and it started fine. I tested all connections first.

I may have a soulution for your problem I have seen this happen before, If you have an external video card Unplug it from the mother board and try to reboot system ,should reboot fine, unless you are have some other problems and don't have an external video card but I have seen this before. You said that the mother board light is on and green My opinion is that it may be the problem if you don't have and external video card let me know I can get you a new mother board for that computer.. Thanks Hope that gets you going . If its the mother board. I sure hopes its not but it can be fixed alot cheaper than a new computer

Your mohterboard seems to be bad! If you have replaced the power supply and placed all connections in the rightful place, with no result! Your Motherboard is definetly bad!

Same problem on DELL 4600. Won't power on. Same green light on. Is it possible the switch is bad?
