If lines are visible only when using in camera mode. The camera might have a CCD imager going bad or lens ribbon , connector problem .If lines are NOT visible when using playback mode. Then problem should be in lens area(CCD)..

I quote: "A couple of days ago after using it when trying to see the pictures on
the camera the LCD did not show anything. The lens reacted and even
take pictures but nothing was visible on the LCD screen."
That means that there was a problem either with a LCD display or with ribbon cable.
Now:"I tried charging the battery and removing it from the camera, now the
camera only does a bit sound when switching on but nothing else, the
lens does not even come out."
That means that the ribbon cable had probably shorted, now the camera may be furtherly damaged.
The camera must be disassembled to access the LCD and fix the problem. The repair must be done by an experienced technician, as to access the LCD you need to remove both covers.
Note that Canon should fix this for you free Worldwide. Sorry, but I don't understand French. But here's a starting point for your search for repair help in France: http://www.canon.fr/Support/index.asp
