Top drawer of freezer seems to work but large bottom drawer not freezing even at -5degrees. Can this be fixed?

This problem seems to be two sided. A refrigerator defrost it is supposed to take the water from defrost down a pipe located behind the freezer rear wall to a pan below the refrigerator where there is a fan blowing warm air over the water to evaporate back into your home or business. If that drain is blocked your refrigerator will accumulate a large block of ice and frost behind the rear panel of freezer and temperatures will warm considerably in fresh food compartment and freezer. Here is one site I want you to read over=> Leaking Refrigerators Just What may Be Happening and here=> Leaking Refrigerators here is a link to a service manual=> LFX25960xx Service Manual Let me know if this service manual is close enough to your model number. At this point I am looking for air blockage behind the rear panel of freezer. If air is being blocked by ice and frost you can use a hair drier to help speed you up while melting ice. If drain is blocked use whatever you can to open the drain line mentions on the links I sent you to and let me know what is found, Thanks Sea Breeze

Maytag mfd2560hes how to replace defrost thermostat

The service manual 16025629 is here: (7.46 mb)
http://appliancedigest.com/index.php?/files/file/498-16025629-maytag-amana-bottom-mount-refrigerator-service-manual

You will have to register to download the manual.

Freezer Back Panel

NOTE: Freezer compartment should now be empty and

walls should be clear of anything that will

obstruct removal of back panel.

1. Loosen screws that mount icemaker to freezer

compartment walls.

2. Pull icemaker gently away from wall of compartment.

As you do so, work fill cup free of fill tube. Unplug

icemaker electrical connector and remove icemaker

from unit.

3. (Pull out Drawer only) Loosen and remove screws

that hold 2 basket glides in place at left and right

sides of compartment.

4. If unit has no icemaker pry with flatblade icemaker

connection cover. Remove cover.

5. Remove hex head screws that hold back panel and

remove panel.

6. Squeeze tabs on ice maker plug to release it from
back panel

Defrost Terminator (Thermostat)

1. Terminator is fastened to evaporator tubing with a

spring clip.

2. Snap terminator off tubing and cut wires to terminator.
3. Remove terminator from unit.

That is word for word.

See parts list diagram here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5170924&diagram_id=28480593#d28480593

This may help with screws but the defrost thermostat is item 32 and not shown on the diagram. Once you hav ethe access panel off loof fok the thermostat. It will have 2 wires and tough metal clip on it.

My MFD2560HES refrigerator and freezer is not working off an on. I had the repair man come from the store I purchased it from and they said I needed a new compressor for $800.00 plus instalation. What do...

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

How to check stuff>
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
If it's iced up really heavy you have an auto defrost problem. Melt the ice with a hairdryer and check the defrost system.

My Maytag MFD2560HES bottom fridge is making a loud humming noise.

Any time there is the sound of humming it is important to locate where the noise is coming from. Sometimes fans wear to a point that at one speed the sound as if humming. Sometimes compressors hum with more catastrophic results. Because your model is a bottom freezer it would be a good idea to open drawer to freezer and see if the sound is from fan in freezer or if pulled away from wall is the sound the fan or compressor area? I believe I will be able to locate a service manual but I will need you to help me pinpoint the location of the loud sound so we can get the sounds back to normal. Let me know if you are able to try that and what you find, Sea Breeze

Why does everything in my fridge freeze eventhough the fridge compartment is set as high as it goes??? Is there someway of recalibrating the thermostat? Thanks

Looking over your refrigerators service manual and wiring diagram shows and electric damper that controls the flow of cold air from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. I just may be stuck with a little frost or we need to check it along with your jazz electronic control board part number 12868513. That board appears to control temperature, defrost and most everything on your model. And if not stuck the electric motor could be bad on the damper. These model are a little tricky so hopefully we can find the problem soon. If you would like to approach this yourself I would first unplug for a little time and try to force some warm air into the damper with a hair dryer to see if the damper will begin to move. Turning freezer colder also may cause the damper to shut more so as to keep the cold air in freezer. If the controls are not responsive then it's a toss up between the two. Be back with photos and links, Thanks Sea Breeze

Warm fridge, cold freezer

If frost in back wall of freezer it's not defrosting. This will keep cold air from getting to refig,. section. It may require a main board replacement. Or a defrost control replacement.
