It's not the lamp (obviously, as you found out). the light filter on the blue lcd has a burn mark on it and needs replacing. many companies don't sell parts for the optical engine (where the filter is), so you may have to purchase the whole engine, which tends to be pricey.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your solution. I'm sure it's correct but we're not willing to fix something that likely will need the exact fix again."

My 50v500 screen has a red screen when the tv is on but no signal. Also, the top of the screen has blue on it. Is this problem just as simple as replacing the lamp? Thank you. Richard Doyle

  1. Perform Memory Initialization. NOTE: You must write down some data values before performing initialize.

  2. Check this status of the picture. It will determine what part need replacement

Hitachi 50V500 has a blue blob in the center of the screen that is getting bigger.

That is a burnt LCD panel caused by excessive heat from the lamp, maybe due to blocked/restricted airways.
It is not likely to get any better and a new LCD unit will be required to repair it along with new filters and maybe a fan.

I have a ultravision 50v500 and it has a blue blob in the middle of screen. I have just changed the bulb with hardly any change in the blob. I also had the light engine changed approx 2 years ago.

That is caused by excess heat possibly due to poor air circulation/blocked filters.
It is damage to the LCD panels. It won't get any better, just worse.
So look for another Blue LCD panel and someone who is experienced to fit it.

Blue blob on screen

Took the TV to the shop...there I learned that the obtical engine assambly has been a pain on this type of TV. The repairer suggested on calling the company and to compliant about it, since there seems to be a known problem with that assambly. The company will send the part ($900.00 cost) to the shop and all I have to pay is for the remove and instalation of the assambly.

If you have the "red" blob in the center of the screen or you have "blue" blobs that show up in random areas of the picture then the only repair is to have a technician replace the optical light engine.

Blue blob

Hello rivas_gab. Before I answeryour question let me explain a little how your tv works. You TV uses is a 3LCDtv that gets its picture from a lamp, the lamp produces a white light brighterthan the sun, the light goes through a square prism and is split 3 ways, eachgoing through a small LCD chip (blue, red & green). Then it travels troughthe light engine where the final picture is produced. The blue blobthat appears on the screen might be caused by one or two lcd chips that havestarted to get burn by the intense heat emitted from the light of the lamp. If that is theproblem you’ll have to replace the entire light engine, the other option isthat you buy the prism with the lcd chips, how ever that almost impossible becausenobody that I know sells them separately. If you decide tobuy, search buy part number, NOT model number, otherwise you’ll run the risk ofgetting non compatible parts. If you’re lookinga place to purchase look for dedicated tv part distributors (my personal recommendation:Discount-Merchant ). Happyhunting.

Hitachi 50v500

For $350.00!!!!

Absolutely!!!

Just do not expect it to be a great picture for long but, you never know you may have a rare good one. For that price I would put it
in the garage and have something special to watch the games on. Even if it goes bad the lamp is almost worth that in some circles.

TV Problem

It is a failure in the light engine itself. You will need to have it replaced. Here is a link to that rather costly part. http://www.partstore.com/Part/Hitachi+Ltd/Hitachi/50V500/Hitachi+Ltd/Hitachi/UX22201D/New.aspx
