Re: dvd writter not working
If the device is set up as a master and not a slave device it may be interfering with the hard drive. check the jumpers on the back of the device. If it's plugged into the same cable as the hard drive it must be a slave device. Otherwise, check your bios upon bootup to see if you it's trying to boot from the device instead of from the hard drive.

No you will need to create a slipstream disk so that you can load drivers for your cd/dvd as well as your hard drive if its sata. The problem is most new laptops have sata drives there for the drivers to run these drives are not present before trying to restore. If you have a restore disk or windows cd research slipstreaming windows. By the way this is more or less Dependant upon your drive being sata. Firstly I would check the warrant situation why ask for hard ache if you dont have to.
check the IDE/SATA cable,if its connected, now u must to become sure from lens.maybe it need to cleaning.therfure,if after cleaning this problem still apear,so u must change the board or somethings in it by testing
What mother board is it? you have sata and ide drives.. new technology is sata which is connected with sata cable to *********** board and appropriate pover coard, the older teconlogy is ide, which is connected with ide (master slave) cable frm you motehr board to you drive... just post what mother board and i could be more specific...
put hard drive as Master. dvd rw as slave! if DVD comes with sata then just put hard drive as master. configure it on the bios setting! if it still don't detect it try replacing IDE cable and sata cable!
