Hello Sir
I have an Acer notebook Aspire 5720Z
The unit came with Vista but we instead loaded a legal copy of XP Pro
We can't get the wireless ethernet card to work. We have tries a dozen drivers from the internet and nothing. Thw actual card is an Atheros ar5bxb63
Acer wont help either. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks for your time
This answer is probly a bit late but the driver for that particular Atheros chip is called atheros_v5_1_1_9.exe and should be easy to find if you type that into google.
Unfortunatly the problem I came accross when downgrading from vista is there was no XP Pro applications and I couldnt install the driver until after I had one of the Acer applications on it, not sure but I think it was ePower.
Your laptop is fairly easy to find the apps for, go to:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads_gd.html
Click Notebook > Aspire > 5720Z
The Vista drivers will appear below.
Simply click the arrow on the drop down box and select
"Microsoft Windows XP Professional x32"
Then click the tab just beneath that says "Application"
Download and install whichever one you need (again, Im not entirely sure which one it uses but from memory Im guessing ePower).
Reinstall the driver, and the wireless card along with that flashy little light should work great. (Well great for an Acer anyway....)
If anybody reading this post has a similar problem but with a different machine which doesnt have the apps for XP, just try a similar model. I have a the TravelMate 2484WXMI, which is series 2480, but there isn't many applications listed for it. I tried the 2470, which only runs XP and had no issues with the software.

I can't get my wireless working on my laptop. I have a Dell Latitude C600, which is an older model. Here's the senerio, I have my linksys g router hooked up and running fine on my desktop. A few days ago i had the wireless working fine on my laptop, but since then I had to reformat my laptop. Now after reformatting my laptop and getting Windows XP installed, I can't find the wireless icon to set up my wireless again. My laptop indicates that the cardbus is working properly and everything is installed properly, but it seems to me that my laptop isn't recognizing my cardbus because when I make windows search for my adapter, it says it's not on the list. I have been trying for 2 days now and I came across your site and I thought I would take a shot????
Thanks
Sherry
ciao ho lo stesso problema
Just bought my son a new Acer Aspire which has Atheros wireless adaptor. I cannot get it to connect to router. Fine using cable. It can see network and I enter network key code but it wont connect - says no response from router. I have 4 other laptops that hooked up no problem but this new one refuses to connect. The router tech team spent ages and cannot work out why - blame the laptop and the laptop tech team spent ages and cannot work out - blame the router. I can get it to connect wireless to BT Openzone so I'm really puzzled. Any thoughts?
