Here are possible parts that could cause the problem GE Refrigerator Freezing Food but the most common is the diffuser/damper that got stuck open and cold air from freezer continously coming in to the fresh food side.
Since your freezer control is the main thermostat , and your refrig control is only a damper , lower your freezer setting and turn the refrig control mid way . This will make the refrig run less , and keep the air flow moving , throughout the complete unit . When the airflow stops , by turning down the refrig control ( closing the damper ) , all the cold air will settle in the refrig section , thereby freezing everything in the lower section .
Since the water line runs thru the freezer door , too cold in the freezer section , will cause the water in the line to freeze . I would also suggest installing a dispensor heater ( pt. # WR49X10173 ) , which would hopefully avoid water line freeze , in the future . This part comes with installation instructions .
The freezer fan slows down due to the refrigerator section being at the desired setting but the freezer section still needing coolant . If the refrig section needed more coolant , the fan would speed up , forcing more air into the refrig section .
After replacing the heater , it could be in the defrost cycle . The thermistors tell the main control board , " hey , we're freezing , turn on some heat " , in which the heater comes on and defrosts the coils , until behind the rear freezer panel , can get up to 140 degrees . As it gets this hot , the frozen food in the freezer , is what keeps the freezer cold . After defrost , the fan comes on and blows the residual heat into the refrig sectio , until the coils get cold again . So , if the refrig section warms up temporarily , it's normal .
Hi, Look and see if there is frost built up in the freezer on the back wall. If there is frost, it will not let air circulate properly and it means there is a problem in you self defrosting cycle. Please let me know if this is what you find so that I can assist you further.
Are the heat exchange coils behind or under the refrigerator clean? Are the fans running smoothly? Check for bent blades and bend them back if necessary. Is the evaporating pan under the refrigerator dry.? Then the drain of the defroster may be blocked. Unblock with a steam generator or a long plastic tube.
There is an internal door between the fridge and freezer section that allows the freezer air to enter the fridge side to keep the fridge cold. Sounds like the internal door is stuck open. Steve
call the tech back... the control board may be fauilty or install incorrectly.. the water leak is from a pluged drain hose or your ice maker leaking not from a control board...
if you get frozen fresh food the air damper is not closing allowing too much freezer air to enter ff section, looks like an electronic controlled wide by side you have, ther should be a tch sheet with a troubleshooting guide behind the kickplate or pasted in an envelope under the front of refrig behind kickplate.
Yes your refrig is not defrosting automatically. You can start by removing the shelves in the freezer than removing the rear panel (the panel that is frosted half way). Use hair dryer to defrost ice from coil. This will restore your refrig temporarily. Your refrig has a pretty advance defrost system and is not easy to test. If you have a meter (volt-ohmmeter) i can help with diagnosis.
