I don't know anything about washing machines, and would like to take care of this. Can someone give me instructions in very, very simple terms, maybe a diagram?
The only way I can get it to stop, is to turn the tap off.
(HELP!, My hardwood floors in the hallway look like they are now ruined. Even if I fix it, can I ever trust it again?
Ok, from looking at some of the other solutions....It looks like I should check the tube first and clean it. When they say drain the washer?? it's already drained if there is no water in the tub? I will take the back off tonight, and try to clean this hose that should be easy ?Ok, from looking at some of the other solutions....It looks like I should check the tube first and clean it. From the closed position lift the lid of the washer about 2'' and listen for a distinct click. Then set lid back down and should hear another click just before it closes. The wire form hinge on left side of lid actuates the lid switch. Is it broken? Let me know.
If this only happens when the machine is turned on,the tube from the tub to the water level switch is pinched or broken. If the clear plastic tube is not pinched or broken, the water level switch in the control console is bad. If the machine lets water through when it is in the OFF position, the water valve where the hoses connect are bad.
if the machine is filling on it's own you have to replace the water valve located on the back of the washer.when you shut off the water and turn it back on sediment in the pipes can get disturbed and flow into the valve, when the valve goes to fully close it can't because sediment is inside the valve and stopping it from fully closing, the only way to fix this is to replace the valve, you don't want to come home to a flooded out home because of the valve.whenever you write about your appliances send the model number so i can look up your model and give you the part number, when you go to your parts store, give them the model number off of the machine and they will sell you the correct part.
To avoid confusion i`ll give you the senerios.Your washing machine was NOT in use and somehow it just fills with water over the day ,slowly filling up and never stops-this is the inlet valve u/s and water seeps, drip drip until the machine leaks-replace valve only answer.Or ,the machine is in use and water doesn`t stop filling up either on wash or rinses-can be valve not shutting off because valve is faulty, similar to above, this is rare but not unknown,or much more likely the air trap/filter is blocked up which is not telling the pressure switch to cut the power to the valve with the correct amount of water.IF the filter/air trap-a rubber hose with a large hose clip and a white looking chamber sprouting from the hoses r/h/side- is at the rear of the machine(to the right of the motor looking from the rear of the machine) this is where you should look first ,if your filter is at the front (r/h/s) i don`t know the answer to this part of the question.

Washing machine sticks or stops mid-cycle
A very common fault on washing machines is when the program timer fails to complete the cycle and stops part way through. Many people blame the program timer for this but although it is a possible cause, there are many more likely causes for this fault. The program will stick if the heater isn't working, if the thermostat fails, if it can't fill up with cold water for the rinses, if it can't empty the water etc. There are too many possible causes of this fault to be able to give anything other than rudimentary advice. However, the common causes of a washing machine sticking that can easily be fixed are filling and emptying problems.
Check that the cold water supply is available to the washing machine, which is a common cause for sticking on rinses. If the washing machine appears to stop mid-cycle and isn't filling with water on rinses then see Washing machine won't fill with water (or no water goes into washing machine) before calling an engineer. If the washing machine can't drain the water out then it will stick on the rinses, or it will abort with an error code. If you can see water still inside the washing machine then check the following advice Washing machine won't empty water
