It sounds like there may be something blocking the lens from extending (internally. the S50 uses a zoom lens that retracts and extends sideways and a mirror to allow light through).

Lens error for coolpix l3. The lens won't retract and the camera won't work. took batteries out and put new ones in. nothing is working. is there a way to reset the camera?

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

Nikon COOLPIX L18 Digital says lens error!

Sometimes the lens is just stuck, sometimes it needs to be replaced. Try to mechanically move the lens in and out by gently twisting, pushing and pulling. If that fails, the gears are too misaligned to repair it without opening it.

If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that replace them such as camera lens repairs.

If you want to do it yourself, there are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

Nikon Coolpix S50 lens Problem

No. Water ruins cameras, water and damage due to being dropped is even worse. Now that you've let it sit and dry corrosion will have set into various electronic and mechanical components and there will be residual conductive salts left where the water evaporated.

Your camera is unrepairable. Buy another one and take better care of it, or buy a rugged tough camera designed to be "you proof" or given that it fell down a toilet, maybe that should be "poo proof"...

My nikon coolpix s710 makes a buzzing tone and says "lens error" in red on a white screen when I turn it on. The lens itself appears to not be fully out nor fully flat against the camera. Is there any way...

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa for your problem

Always check the batteries first, even try a feash set but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty.
It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

Nikon s50 lens error

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.
