I moved from england and my sharp surround sound will not play australian dvds, it say's wrong code, what is the code and how do i change it. many thanks

Unfortunately, you have a DVD player that is "Region Specific" and cannot be changed. Your system has a region code printed on the back of the unit and will only play DVDs that are labeled with identical region codes. DVDs labeled "ALL" will also play in this unit. If you try to play any other DVD, the message " Playing this disc is prohibited by area limits." will appear on the TV screen. Depending on the DVD, no region code indication may be labeled even though playing is prohibited by area limits.
Check the DVD code written at the back of the player ( 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 ) and see if your disc code matches if not it will not play once you update the firmware. You see many of the players sold in the market have the DVD codes unlocked, but once you update the firmware it automatically goes back to its native region.
Hi,on most of the DVD players regional set up cannot be changed. As an easy solution ,you can play them in your Laptop and with proper connection you can watch them on your TV as well.. The American DVD Copy Control Association in California requires that DVD-player manufacturers incorporate the regional-playback control (RPC) system - according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, an Australian government agency.[1]
There are six different official regions and two informal variations.[citation needed] DVDs may use one code, a combination of codes (Multi-Region), most codes (Region 0) or every code/no codes (Region All). The commercial DVD player specification requires that a player to be sold in a given place not play discs encoded for a different region; however, region-free DVD players are also commercially available.[2] In addition, many DVD players can be modified to be region-free, allowing playback of all discs.[3]
American DVD players will not play European DVDs because they use different region codes, you can normally play them on computers, but DVD players are normally coded for only one region.
DVDs have more than 1 sound track on them. That is to say different sound codings. You may well have to select the correct sound track on the dvd to suit your surround sound sysyem, this will be found in the options screen of the dvd (thestart menu). Failing that, you may need to change the sound coding on your surround system to suit a particular film.
Open disk tray and press 0000, a two line menu appears with "Edit Region _" and "Region Code:x" put in required region (presumably 0) and press enter. Region Code:0 appears. power off and enjoy.
