Ipod touch music wont play, built in speaker works fine

Everytime i plug something into the headphone jack of my ipod touch 2nd gen, the music goes quiet so i can only just hear it, and when i turn the volume up nothing happens, same as if i turn it down. the sound still works out of the built in speakers but not from headphones or anything else i plug into it.

Restart your ipod by holding the home and power button at the same time, this will restart it and should fix it.

IPod headphone-socket issues.

make sure the headphones are in all the way! if you have an ipod that doesnt have the speakers built in the it might have just gone bad.

For some reason my ipod touch won't play when I plug it into my stereo. It is playing out of the ipod itself. How do I turn this off.

Hello.
This is a very common problem, you may have to get a different jack that works with the headset jack thats on the iPod. iPhones and iPods have a weird style jack on the top that wont allow most headphone or 3.0mm to 3.0mm jacks to go fully inside the jack causing it so there is not connection with the jack itself in the iPod. You can check this by turning the volume up and down using the rocker buttons on the side while you are at the home screen with no music playing and see if it says speaker or headphones when your turn the volume up and down. Speaker means there is no jack connection, headphone means that there should be music playing through the stereo. Thats using the jack.
If your talking about an iHome or other direct plug in stereo specifically for the iPods and iPhones, make sure that the dock is the correct dock for the iPod, and make sure that it is pressed fully down onto the dock. If all that is correct there should be no problem. If the problem still is happening, it may be your stereo. =/ Goodluck! Hope this helps!

2nd gen touch (model mb528ll)internal speaker stopped after OS upgrade to v3.1.1. Headphones plugged in work fine, butwhen they are removed silence reigns. How do I get back the internal speaker after the...

My guess is it's a faulty upgrade, unless you aren't adjusting the volume after you take the headphones out (when you take headphones out, music stops, and the volume changes).

Try restoring it. If it still isn't working after that, try re-downloading the os 3.1.1 update. It could just be a corrupted file, and it does sound like it.

Cannot play external speakers

Try firmly pressing the iPod into the dock connector. If it works, good. If it doesn't, then your iPod may not have support for the speakers.

Itouch volume realy messed up! plz help!

and you are sure the volume is all the way up? If the headphone jack thinks there is something in there the ipod touch will only play through the headphones. you can try to blow out any dust in there with a can of air and that might solve your problem.
