Hey - when my screen did that I was told that my Y & Z sustain boards blew out. I now have another issue w/ my set & I was told by a tech guru on this site that there are additional boards that should have been replaced as well.

I too fee like I want to take a crack at fixing it myself, but I don't know specifically which parts to address.

I complained to Zenith (in a nice way) & they've extended my warranty to fix my new problem free of charge, which they should do anyway

My zenith plasma tv popped real loudlike a car backfiring and then the tv picture went black. power on green light wil turn on but it automatically cuts itself back off to the red light

There's an over current fault in the power supply or the Y-sustain convergence board. The loud pop was either a capacitor or pico-fuse breaking from excessive current overload. Sounds like 2 or 3 mosfets have shorted at the gate ends. Plasma TV's always have this problem because they generate too much heat and the components cant take the load conditions. Make your next TV an LCD...

To fix this problem have your local repair shop do it for you.....

LG Inside.

Needs either a Y-Sustain or a Z-Sustain.

Whichever has the blown fuse inside.

TV made a loud pop sound now picture is real dim.

Don't know much about the newer tv's but in the old days when they did that the guns at the back of the tube where on the way out.. my guess is the modern equivalent is happening..you need to check the vision card.

Loud pop - no picture

Your X and Y circuit boards are bad. It might require the replacement of the power supply as well. This is not uncommon for LG/Zenith plasmas to have this issue. Not a do it yourself repair.

Green light blinking- no picture

This just happened to my Z50 yesterday...10 days after it came back from the repair shop! The first repair was for the "popping" problem where the tv makes a loud pop and the screen goes black. This took 6 weeks to get fixed. For this new problem the repair center is getting hold of LG to find out what to do. I am also calling them because I see this is a major problem that people have been experiencing out of warranty. The first customer service rep told me I was out of luck but I am not accepting that answer. Good luck, we'll both need it.
