You will need to download the converter program
'DPM Mode' coming from your display means that it
isn't happy with the resolution it's seeing coming from the input (your
DVD) and so the display goes to sleep.
Presumably you have its resolution set at 1280 x 768 for the Blu-Ray
DVDs? In which case you need to try setting the monitor resolution to
720 x 480 before watching the standard DVDs. That may work, at any
rate. If not... well, I'm stumped...

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthrea…2 possible solutions. The first one is the most important.
First go to the system menu, on the left.
then scroll down to display settings.
choose the first option
if you are displaying though a hdmi adaptor, click on hdmi
then click automatic.
store settings.
This will change the display resolution of the PS3 to the same as the source.
The second way, and probably better one if it works for you, is to upscale the DVD.
To do this, go to the settings menu
scroll to the DVD settings menu
choose DVD upscaler.
try different settings to see what works best on your TV, but try normal first.
If this one works then change the display settings to display the maximum res of your TV all the time.
Check the resolution of your display and the
player. Put them in order so that the signal doesn't go beyond the
resolution of the display.
If this doesn't work, check out the link below.
