Ps2 usb port

About the usb port of ps2, actually its not a problem but i just want to ask if what are the uses of the two usb ports of the console?

  • deww Dec 21, 2007

    I have a New Model Satin Silver Slim PS2, and i have a Codebreaker Disc made by Pelecan Products. Now It say's that you can upgrade the disc with new codes by downloading them to a USB Jump Drive and then loading the disc along with the USB Jump Drive into your PS2, But when i try to do that my Codebreaker disc dose not want to load, it starts to and the screen starts to lighten up like it is loading but then it wo'nt finish loading. It loads right up if i do not have my USB Drive in. I heard that Sony made the USB Ports on the front of it Inoperable, is this true and is there a way of making them operable again, so that i can upgrade my Codebreaker disc? Sincerally, Uriah Bennett

The usb ports on the ps2 can be used for a keybord with games like everquest online or a headset with games like socom, i'm sure there are other uses for them also but thats the only ones i can think off of the top of my head.

What is the purpose of the usb ports of my ps2

Kind of the same purpose the large section at the back is empty, if you remove the plastic cover on the larger units that is. SONY had plans to expand the PS2 so that the PS3 was actually just an extra connection, (sort of what project natal will be to Xbox360) but as is the way of the wprld a good idea left behind due to bugger and better things. Apparently there were a style of controller you could use in the USB port to enable four players without a multi tap, but i feel that is a gamers urban legend. I hope this helped. Thanks.

Playing PS2 Games on a PS3 - Check Backwards Compatibility

Not all PS3 consoles have the capability to play PS2 games. Sony have removed PS2 compatibility altogether from the new PS3 slim and the later version PS3s only have limited capability to play PS One games.

This Tip is written to help you determine if your console is backward compatible for PS2 games.

First locate the model number of your PlayStation 3 system by finding the bar code sticker at the back of the console. Underneath the bar code you will see the 11-digit serial number followed by the model number which begins with "CECH".

Models that have PS2 game compatibility are first generation consoles and the versions are 80GB, 60GB and 20GB. These PS2 compatible consoles will all have 4 USB ports which is another useful identifier.

See below for a breakdown of the model numbers that are compatible with running PS2 games;

1) Model No: CECHE01 - These are 80 GB models with 4 USB ports. (Please note 80GB models with 2 USB ports are not compatible).

2) Model No: CECHA01 60 GB models

3) Model No: CECHB01 20 GB models

Another important factor here is the PS2 games themselves.

Even if you have one of these consoles, a PS2 game may run fine on one version say the 60GB but may not work on the 80GB.

If you have identified that you have one of these consoles and want to check if a particular game is compatible with it use the link below. You can enter the exact console you are using - then enter the PS2 game you want to play;
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

This will give a definitive answer on compatibility between a particular PS2 game you want to play and the actual console you have.

I do hope this Tip has clarified the issues for you.

The PS3 with the four USB ports in the front is the only one as of now ( talk of some sort of patch for other consoles) that is backwards conmpatible with PS2 games.

HELLO

is your mouse and keyboard plugged into a PS2 connector http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ps-2-ports.jpg
look inside of your case and see if any capacitors are buldging on your motherboard the tops of the capacitors should be level/flat if they're ok, sounds like they are going, look for brown rusty color also around tops of capacitors, might be your outputs are going. If you have your mouse and keyboard plugged into ps2 ports try a USB Mouse and keyboard, borrow one first or buy a usb laser mouse for $12 worth a try even if your ps2 ports are blown, use the usb ports for mouse/keys ;)

USB Port Problems

Hi Jen Storm,

It is probably dirty on the inside. My guess is that Dust has built up on the motherboard and some moisture in the air has turned it to a conductive dust. This will casue a probably like you are seeing. Either Clean it up real good yourself or send it to a repair shopp. If you are looking for arepair Shop, Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen, and Click on "Video Game Consoles" Pick a good Repair shop in your Area, or Nation.

Ps2

Hi

I believe the SCPH-version 30000 through 50001 use the UBD ports for Playstation Specific Devices like the eyetoy.  The Slim PS2 has is more diversified and can read USB devices just like a computer.  To get details on your PS2, you can get detailed instructions at www.playstation.com.  sign up and go to Support for your older version PS2 and read up on connecting to the USB port.  You may find out how to actually do it. I have not tried my self.  I wish I could help more.

John

You might be able to join the Ps2 consoles together with a Ilink Cable. It is the port next to the USB connectors. not sure, never used it, but I know the Firewire/I-link port is used for networking.
