Os reinstall hi i have a mac book pro and for some reason my hard drive went bad after only about 2 months of use unfortunatly i wasn't smart enough to buy the warranty but i was able to figure out how to change the hard drive ,my probllem is i dnt have my reinstalation disks for 10.4 however one of my friends do ,would ther be any conflict if i used his cd to reinstall my system

this can happen if your hard drive is gone. Start will reinstallation of mac os from your CD etc. first. if that solves the problem Good!, otherwise change hard drive and reinstall mac os. Third reason why your Mac pro will do this is because of messed up mother board which can only be fixed by your local computer store etc.
1. insert the DVD given with mac book pro
2. restart
3. before rebooting (restart musical cord) press alt (option) key, when the display appears
4. now you have to select which source disk you wish to start
5. must select the DVD you were insert

if the drive is making the "Click of Death" then most likely the only way to recover the data is to send the drive to a data recovery specialist (DriveSavers, On-Track et al) recovery of data can be pricy.
It is possible the drive enclosure itself is bad, you could try moving the drive to another enclosure and see if it works there, but that is a stretch
It needs to be formatted for mac use. If you are going to be using it on both Windows and Mac OS X, you need to format it in windows as a FAT 32 partition. If you are going to be using it Mac ONLY, then you can format it in disk utility.
