Attempting to connect new Acer netbook to existing Mac network

I have a macbook pro & macbook (using OS X 10.5.7 and a wireless network with hardware as follows: (1) Linksys cable modem, (1) non-wireless Linksys router connected to (1) version 7 airport express. I also have (2) version 6 airport expresses are located in other rooms that are not connected via the extend the range mode as the longest distance from from any point to the main express (version 7 connected to Linksys route is less than 35 feet. The two version 6 expresses are used to stream music to audio systems in those two rooms.

3 days ago I purchased an Acer Aspire One. I can not get the Acer to connect wirelessly to the internet. I can get an internet connection if I connect via ethernet cable from Acer to the Linksys router. I have not tried connecting Acer via ethernet to the Airport Express. My known wireless menu on the Acer recognizes my wireless network and any where from 10-15 other wireless networks in the building in which I live. My wireless signal is the strong, all the bars are illuminated. I have a WPA/WPA2 password for the network. The Acer claims to be a WPA2. I downloaded istumbler on my Mac to look at which channels the other wireless networks in my building are operating on and switched the channel on my airports to 4 after I acertained that nobody was using either 3,4 or 5. The radio mode (not sure what this is) listed for my network is 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)

Here's what happens: after logging onto my network with the Acer, typing in the network key and confirming it and hitting start I get a message that the Acer is attempting to connect to network. This is as far as I get before the process times out about 20 minutes later and my wireless networks disappears from the menu list altogether. My Macs continue to stay connected to my network however. In order to get my wireless network to reappear on the Acer known netowrk list I usually have to restart the computer as the refresh commands works sometimes and not at others.

Had the same problem. What i did was in the Airport Configuration program goto "Airport" then to "Wireless" and then to "Wirelesee options" In this menu deselect "Use wide channels". Also i decreased the power of the 5.0 Ghz transmission, because i don't use it yet. But i think the "Wide channels" is the reason of the problem. It is a bit weird thoug, on my Airports Guest acount with no password and incryption, the Acer One loged on perfectly, but on my private network with WPA2 it did not. Aparantly the Guest network does not use "Wide Channels" Hope this helps, but take care, maybe the menu's are called differendly because i had to translate them from Dutch. Good luck.

Resetting Your Password You can reset your administrator password and passwords for all other accounts. To reset your password, using a partner computer and Remote Install Mac OS X:

Macbook and wireless n setup how do you set it up????!!!!!

Can you clarify the problem for me:

1. Mac Type = Macbook
2. Operating System = Mac OS ?
3. What are you trying to connect to?

For example are you trying to set up a Wireless Home network, meaning that iPhones, iPods or other macs can share the one Internet Connection. This is called a Computer-to-Computer Network.

OR are you trying to configure a Wireless Modem to work with your MacBook?

Setting up a Computer-to-Computer Network is done by:

1. Select System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
2. Select Network from the Internet & Wireless section.
3. Select Airport from the list of devices.
4. Click the Turn Airport On button, located next to Status. NOTE: If it is already turned on then this button will read Turn Airport Off.
5. Select Create Network from the drop down menu adjacent Network Name.
6. Type in the preferred name that you wish to call your network in the Name field. (ie., MacBookHomeNetwork or something)
7. Select the Channel (Channel 11) is an OK one to select.
8. Choose whether you want the user to type in a password to gain access to your network. (This is recommended.) If you do, then click the check box beside Require Password.
8.1 Type in the Password into the Password field.
8.2 Type the Password again into the Verify field.
8.3 Select the type of encryption you want to use, 40bit or 128bit.
9. Click the Show Airport status in Menu Bar check box.

NOTE: If you require advanced settings, then click the Advanced ... button.

10. Apply and then go back to the System Preferences window (using the Left Arrow located top/left of window). If you get stuck, get back using Instruction No.1 above.)
11. Click the Sharing Icon in the Internet & Wireless section.
12. Select from the list each item you wish to share (i.e, File, Printer, Bluetooth, Internet, DVD or CD etc...).

NOW : From your other device, you need to locate the new Wireless Network Connection.

If it is an iPhone or iPod then go to the Settings menu and select Wi-Fi from the list. The new network should be picked up automatically. Log in to it (if you set up passwords).

I hope this helps. Regards,

Cannot connect MacBook to DIR-615 router

Is your wireless network secured ?
If you are trying to connect to the secured wireless network, make sure that the network that you are typing is correct.
If you are not sure about the network key
then check the network key on the router.
You said that MAC is able to connect to the neighbor's wireless network.
Make sure that the Wireless MAC filter on your router is disabled.

My new macbook white does not configure.

Can you connect hardwired?
If so, try selecting "Software Update" from under the Apple in the upper Left hand corner. There have been a number of updates that effect wireless connectivity.

Additionally try repairing permissions Application / Utilities / Disk Utility

MacBook Pro/ ParkerVision SIGNALMAX WR1500/ Compatability?

It looks like the product is no longer supported by ParkerVision and no Mac driver was ever produced. The device you mention uses proprietary technology to get the performance you are seeing.

I would bet that it would be easier to replace your router with a new one that uses industry standards that all platforms support.
