In the final rinse spin my washer makes a horrible sound like metal hitting metal. It does this with all washes. Could it be permanently off balance?

  • marlene_hins Aug 11, 2009

We wondered if it was a broken spring. That is what it sounds like. And yes, there is "play" in the drum.

The washer and dryer are stacked in a small closet. It's going to be a real bummer to move them out. I will call a repairman. Thank you for your quick response.

Will it hurt the washer to continue to use it if I can tolerate the noise?

Hi, check leveling of washer, with spirit level, after leveling, put both hands on washer, and try to rock it, side to side, front to back, there shouldn't be any play, (movements) it's possible that you have a broken spring, you will have to open washer to check, can you? if not let mechanic check. good luck.

LG Tromm Steam Washer Cycle is complete and the stuff is so wet that they have to wrung by hand to even put they on a clothes line. Can washer be put on spin only? How?

call a technician as it indicates that the cycle from rinse, spin is not progressing to spin only
rinse, spin is a low speed spin to facilitate the rinse and to balance out the clothes ready for the fast speed spin cycle

Final high speed spin very noisey

Something is causing the drum to be way out of balance. Does it bang and make noise when it's spinning empty? Probably not. Is something stuck on the side (inside of course) of the drum, causing it to shake when spinning? If not, a spring or shock absorber (connecting drum to sides, bottom or top of machine) has broken or come loose.

Will Only Rinse/Spin with little to no clothes in drum

sounds like unit is activating out of balance lever thats y it works with no load in it .possible faulty suspension rods making bowl move too much.out of balance lever is at back of inside bowl to the right. try adjusting back feet to make them about half an inch higher than the front feet .that will move the bowl away from lever giving more tolerence. see how u go please reply 4 more help

Washing machine off balance in one cycle

Make sure washer is on a level surface and all four feet adjusted properly. A slight forward lean may help with this problem as the out of balance switch is at the rear.

When it is on the rinse cycle it makes a horrible sound

could be a clutch or drive tube problem, on the bottom of your basket drive tube is a thrust washer,it eventually wears off the boyyom of the tube and your clip that holds on your brake release arm falls off breaking your clutch arm and thus no spin will happen ,, sounds like yours is grinding off the bottom of the basket drive tube,, mine was always screaching on the rinse spin and finally gave out when it wore the bottom off my tube, went and bought a used tube installed it with a new clutch and works fine now no more screaching!

If my washer machien makes a noise like boom boom and moveing what do i do get a part to fix it

The correct answer will depend on exactly what your washer is doing when the Boom boom noise is heard.

I will take a guess that it is on the 'spin' cycle or 'rinse' cycle - while the bowl is spinning. The boom sound is your wash bowl (drum) hitting the rubber bumpers located on 3 metal beam like parts.

The cause is either a bad balance in the load (lots of jeans bunched up on one side of the bowl throws is out of balance and it hits the sides. Or- one of the 3 springs that hold the bowl in the center of the machine cabinet is off its fastener. You can look under the machine (lay it on its face - on a towel or rug), with no water or clothes in it..... and check to be sure all the springs and fasteners are in place.

If one is broken, pull it out and take it to an appliance parts place in your area.... and get a new one. Just install the replacement part like the other 2 assembles inside the cabinet.

Let us know this does it for you.... -Jim
