It is taking me nearly an hour to print out a 2-page document plus other things. I keep getting the msg "PC LOAD LETTER" and there is plenty of paper. I hit the reset buttons and it just goes back to same msg. The door is shut, no paper jam, and the paper tray is locked into place and shut. This printer has been a workhorse for me, but now, it just keeps hiccupping with that msg and I can't get it to hold the lights for ready.
I have the same problem! "PC LOAD LETTER"
I have to put in a paper in the manual feeder, than it prints without problems. BUT I DON`T UNDERSTAND WHY!!!
Because on my wifes japanese XP and on my new VISTA PC it print out without the need off manuall paper feed! And the settings looks like on all setups! Oh yes, I deleted the printer on reinstalled it on this computer - no change. But it must be something wrong on the setup (why could I else print out from the other computers - arrrggg).

Hi, I assume you can run paper thru the manual feed without any problems? If so the paper sensor that detects the paper in the tray has either broken or fallen off! If you take the paper tray out and tilt the printer a little bit on it's back you should see a sensor that will swing back and forth its' solid black/plastic . The sensor is very cheap and I'm pretty sure this is the problem> Good Luck!!

I might have one other solution for you if the paper sensor is intact!! Have you checked to make sure the setting in the printer menus are correct? The last thing I would do before taking it to the shop is reset the factory default settings only if your printer is not connected to a network? To do so power the printer off and then press the online button and keep holding the online button down and power the printer back on. hold button for about 5 seconds and then release it should say restorring factory settings. As a technician I will do this just in case a setting has been changed or for the printer to erase anything that's causing this issue!

Thanks for the heads-up on that possibility. I checked, and it looks like that sensor piece of plastic is all intact. I can feed envelopes and single sheets, though. Guess I will take it to the repair place. I love my HP4, and hope I don't have to replace it. Thank you again.
