I got the same problem too. My machines worked perfect in the past 6 eyars and it suddenly start water overflowing today. It is lucky that I found the issue just before I left the house, otherwise the house will be flooding. I am looking for solution to fix the issue. I will check the hose tomorrow to see if there is any loose.

Check your hose from the side of the tub all the way up to the water selector knob. if its loose or has even a pin sized hole in it, it will cause the maching not to sense it has reached the level selected.

My washer fills with water and keeps filling doesn't stop on the selected water level for the load. It doesn't wash because the water keeps filling. What's wrong with my washer? Help please (Maytag...

The problem is simple and easy to fix. Your washer has a tubing which runs from the base of the tub to the water pressure switch. It might have vibrated loose from the switch, or their can be some sediment in the tub. Blow out the tubing and reattach it securely to the switch and pump out the water in the tub. Then try it again. I wrote an article about this:

Maytag pav2300 wont stop filling up. New timer

After the water fill, Switch off the mains, allow little water bleed through the hose that goes to the level switch. As the water flows try fixing into the level switch block.

Clean the water drips to dry and switch on the m/c. It should be alright since you say that the switch is OK when air is blowed!

Maytag top loadind washer. Won't stop filling up.

Make sure your drain hose to the drain pipe is higher than the water in the tub if not it will keep running and going out the drain.
Also try taking the hose off the level switch and blow in it to be sure it's not stoped up. If is it won't let the level sw cut off. air should go through it. Good luck
When you unpluged the power and it ddn't keep runing the water valve should be ok.

No cold water to my Maytag Top loading washer

Pull the washer out from the wall and disconnect the water lines from the washer. Check to see if a build-up of minerals is clogging the screen on the cold water line where it enters the washing machine.

Maytag washer

Check to make sure your drain hose has a loop at least as high as washer top.  If the drain hose is not looped higher than tub water will continue to drain and it won't stop filling.  If it doesn'y reach the correct fill level it won't agitate.
