I have seen several people say this about having to be connected to XBOX Live and i dont know why, but it always seems to be ones Microsoft repaired and now they want you to be connected to the internet all the time. I would consider getting a memory card(flash) and just save stuff to that and take it with you...of course if where you are going doesn't have a 360 than you are screwed. I would call xbox help line first though.

I have had a very similar problem. I have a refurbished console. I called the support line, and they told me to delete the downloaded content and re-download it. When that didn't work, the lady told me to call back in the morning and speak with a supervisor. On a whim, I tried downloading a cheap Arcade game (Galaga). This is not one that I had downloaded before. Then I unhooked my 360 from the modem, turned off the console and restarted it. I was able to play Galaga. So, obviously content that is downloaded for the first time onto the console will work offline, but I'm pretty pissed that I have to be online to have access to my stuff. I don't know if this helps or not. If anyone knows of a solution to getting old downloaded content to work, that would make my life easier. Thanks.
