Your Sony Camcorder was basically setup to work with Windows XP, in that timeframe, and making it work with Windows Vista could be problematic. However, you may be able to make everything work by using the i.Link connection on the camera to a i.Link card on a desktop PC. Sony says this might work in Vista if you upgrade your original software. As far as drivers for the IEEE-1394 card, they are mostly already built-in in Microsoft Windows XP, VISTA etc. and should be no problem. If you do not already have a firewire card, get one from Amazon online.
Sony have a page offering information and support, including downloads (Picture Motion Browser) for this camera at THIS LINK
This type of camera transfers video to computer with a Firewire (Sony call this i.Link) connection. Some mini-DV and D8 cameras have a USB connection which is used for stills ONLY. There is a tutorial for downloading videos to computer linked from the above site.
DVD Handycam and Hard Disk Drive Handycam are NOT supported by this driver.
DV streaming function in DCR-PC1000/E is NOT supported by this driver.
This driver does not support USB Streaming under the Windows 98 operating system.
To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
