Computer suddenly does not recognize my sony cybershots

All was well for several years but suddenly the laptop (OP = XP) does not recognize either the W5 nor W7. It is not the memory card; nor the USB port nor the USB cable. I have ruled all these out. I have reloaded the software but still the computer does not even recognize this as an external memory device. I have spent some 8 hours trying to solve this and am at that lovely stage of desperate frustration. Help please!

I would buy a memory card reader (docking station) for your memory card. This is preferred over going through the camera, anyway. Beyond that, you say you have ruled out every other thing I could suggest. Are you sure about all those? Can you try this on another PC or does anyone you know have a card reader you could try the memory in?

I can't download pictures to my computer error message says cannot detect camera

It may be a USB port issue or a USB cable issue. Try an alternate cable or a different USB port. Try other USB devices on those same ports to make sure they work. Try using a USB card reader to transfer photos from the card directly instead of plugging in your camera directly.

CyberShot DSCW55 driver wont work on win xp x64

No, their is not one if its not compatible you will have to purchase a camera that is compatible with win xp 64. Another option is to get a USB card reader ($15-$20) and put your memory stick inside it and goes directly into the usb port. You can pull your photos off just like a portable memory stick. I use this option for my Sony camera and my laptop has a media port that takes the card directly with no need to have a USB card reader....

My sony cybershot T2 is no longer recognized by any computer I connect it to via USB. But when I connect my sister's camera (also a T2), it works fine? please help

You may have a bad USB in your camera connector in your camera. Any repair shop should be able to repair for less than $50.00. Also check that you do not have a bad cable. You may also want to try on a different computer than yours. if it works you may have a driver or USB conflict with your computer.

Hey sorry it took me a day to get back! - Sony Cybershot DSC-H50

I WAS BACK UP ON THE SONY SITE BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I NEED TO KNOW WHAT OS IS ON YOUR COMPUTER? TALKING WITH SONY THEY CLAIM THAT FOR XP,SP2 AND VISTA THAT THE FIRMWARE AND DRIVERS ARE IN THE MICROSOFT SOFTWARE?! THEY CLAIM THAT THAT EITHER SYSTEM SHOULD RECOGNIZE YOUR CAMERA AND INSTALL THE PROPER FIRMWARE. I CAN RUN DOWN ANY UPDATED DRIVERS THEY HAVE AS SOON AS I HAVE YOUR OP. SYSTEM ON YOUR COMPUTER. OK? I'LL BE WAITING.

My computer cannot detect my canon SD 750 camera when i try to download my pictures

I discovered a workaround for this problem...I pulled the memory card and inserted it directly into my laptop, which happened to have this type of port. It allows me to pull directly off the card. I still cannot connect via a cable, but this at least lets me get pictures loaded to my computer.

Recognition problem with Sony DSC-P50

Most digital cameras software require that the camera be in playback mode (mode for viewing photos) before the computer will recognize the camera. If that is not the solution, be sure to go back and read your Sony User's Manual and see if you are overlooking something. If you are unable to get the computer to recognize the camera you can always buy a card reader (about $20).
