Lines through pictures

Do the magenta lines go outside the picture into the white border? If so, the print head has gone bad, and the cost to replace a print head is more than a new printer.

Does the white line appear in all colors? Or is it limited to just one color? Try printing some full pages of each color (use a gray scale to save on toner, 50% shade should do). If the line appears in only one color, then replace that toner cartridge. If all three colors, then replace the drum.

If they are white lines keep trying to clean the print head. If they are black lines you need to physically clean the bottom of the print heads with a damp cloth.

Print heads need to be cleaned cause they are clogged which is why even replacing the cartridges is not fixing the problem.

If the printhead can't be cleaned then a new printer is in order.

Sounds like you need to re-align the print cartridge . The reason the text comes out ok is probably because it is only using the black cartridge for text. The color cartridge is the one that's out of alignment. You may have some sort of Cannon utility running in the task bar that will allow you to easily allign the print cartridges. If not, go to the main "Printers and Faxes" window, RIGHT-click on the printer and select "Properties". You should be able to find a button in the properties that's labeled something like re-align print cartridges. It will print out a series of test pages and ask you to select the set of lines that looks the straightest and type it in. It's a good idea to do this every time you replace a cartrige.
