Question about Panasonic TH-42PD50U 42 in. Plasma EDTV
My new TV won't turn on with the remote, but the power button still works. The remote blinks red 3 times, but does nothing and I have made sure to select TV on it before trying to push a button. I am still under 30 days on this one and its the second model that has had power issues. Any ideas on what this could be? I was under the impression that Plasmas where a developed technology with all the kinks worked out. This is frustrating....
Panasonic uses the flashing of the power LED as a guide for trouble shooting their sets when no image is visible. So if the power LED blinks 3 times then the D board is defective. Basically its the main control board. It needs to be serviced.

I have the same tv you do. Bought it last week and it's doing the same thing! I guess we know why they were on sale....
I took my remote to circuit city and turned off another panasonic no problem. They exchanged remotes with me and new one acts identical with the old one. This is definetly something to do with the TV itself. As this is my second TV, same model with similar issues I'm hesitant to get a replacement, but for brand new for $799.99 I'm not sure if I could swing a better deal. But that is a very expensive paper weight. I'll post here again if I get the same model and have more dramas.
The sales rep at circuit city believes this is due to power fluctuations that are destroying the microelectronics of the plasma.... There may be some truth to this perhaps as I hear a rapid click, lower sounding click, click when turning on and randomly while watching a movie. This issue according to the wife seems to be after extended use so its power or heat related? The annoying thing to me is that now that I came back from the store the next day the set is powering up fine and responding to the remote just as it should. I find this very disconcerting and confusing. I had the TV hooked up to a $35 apc surge protector not just to the wall. I'm unsure if a power conditioner is really going to help with this. BTW props to Circuit City for being amazingly helpful and cooperative during this process. Any ideas on what this intermittent issue could be?
interesting....I wonder why it was not working for so long and then seems to be fine. I get a replacement tomorrow I hope this doesn't happen again, thanks for the heads up on that though.
I have the same problem. The TV is four months old.
