Same printer, same problem. Problem occurred after changing ink cartridge with an original Lexmark cartridge.

Steps taken: Reopen en close cover, take out cartridge and replace again, disconnected power cord en reconnected. No changes, problem remains.

Make the solution easy to fix. Almost impossible to get sensor part out to try & fix. Have got piece out intact but can't access back of machine to put back in. Future printers should have an easier access to enable such a simple little thing to be put back in if intact.

Screen displays message saying "cover

It could be that the cover sensor is stuck or could also be due to the cartridges in the printer. Please follow the steps below on how to identify and fix the problem:
  1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.
  2. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.
  3. Close the printer cover.
  4. Re-brick your printer by pulling out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.
  5. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.
  6. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  7. Reinsert the other cartridge.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear.
  9. If no error appears, reload some sheets of paper and try to print a document again to verify that problem is fixed.
If the problem continues, please contact the Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Lexmark x3470 printer says "cover open" and it will not do anything. Curtis

Try these as I found them from Lexmark's website

Solution What you will see
The printer displays a 'Cover open, please close cover' error message, even though the cover is closed.
Possible cause of the error
This can happen if the lever on the cover open sensor is knocked off the switch assembly.
What to do
Take the following steps to try to determine if there is a hardware fault:
Steps Actions 1 Remove and replace the cartridges from the printer. 2 Disconnect the power cable and the USB cable. 3 Check that the power cable is plugged directly into a wall socket. 4 Reconnect the power cable. 5 Close the printer cover. 6 If the error persists, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for further instructions.

The "cover open" message appears on the display and will not clear. I have opened and closed. The printer seems frozen. How can this message be cleared?

look for a little button or hole that you can insert something into much like how the refridgerator light works, or the washing machine goes to spin with the lid open. i taped my button down and the error went away. can also do it on some models if you have a low ink message.

When I changed the ink cartridge on the Lexmark X3470 I got a Cover Open message even though the cover was checked repeatedly. It is closed. The power button would not go off and the machine would not...

never let a machine defeat you
tape down the little plastic black lever inside so it can not POP UP to trigger the error message. who needs a machine to say lid is up anyway?

The language on my printer screen appears to be Chinese. It used to be English, but my grandson pushed buttons and I don't know how to get English back. Help-- it is a Lexmark X3470.

How to Change the Display Language on a Lexmark X3450/X3470/X3480
  1. Turn off the power by pressing the Power button once.
  2. Then press and hold both the Start button and the Power button.
  3. Once the screen displays Mfg Menu enabled, release both buttons and wait until the display shows Copies:1.
  4. Press the Mode button three times. All the indicator lights will go out and the screen will display LCD button test.
  5. Press the up arrow (pattlnk_692006_1047-up%20arrow.gif ) once. The screen will display Clean NVRAM.
  6. Press the Start button once. The printer will be reset. Afer a few seconds, the message Language: English will appear on the display.
  7. Press the up arrow (pattlnk_692006_1047-up%20arrow.gif ) until you reach your preferred language. Press the Start button once, then the Menu (pattlnk_762006_1319-menue.jpg ) button.
  8. Turn the printer off and then back on to disable the manufacturer menu (Mfg Menu). NOTE: After clearing the NVRAM, you will need to print an alignment page. The printer LCD will display this while the alignment is being performed.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Cover tab broken on Lexmark X3470

Have you recovered the tab? All the tab does is interrupt a sensor beam between 2 points. Either glue it back on (epoxy or super glue, use sparingly on one side then apply and hold down until it sets, about a min. or tape a popsicle stick into the area where the tab rested. First feel around with the stick in the area until the printer responds. then fix it there.
