Question about Western Digital My Book Essential Edition (WDG1U5000N) 500 GB Hard Drive
Hi guys...
I had kind of the same problem like u...when i plugged it into the usb all i got was a "unknown usb device found"
I opened the external case hoping the hdd was still ok only to find out that the hdd cables had been moved slightly out of position..propably from a fall or a knock I didn't even noticed..
I just pressed them back in..click..and everything was back to normal..
These sites have info about how to open the external case..

I have a 320 GB Western Digital "My Book" External Hard Drive. My computer doesn't recognize it anymore. I've tried both the USB and firewire connections. No luck. I tried it on my computer at work and on a laptop. No luck. I've had if just over a year. If anyone has an idea on how to fix it, please let me know.

Running into the same problem trying to install the Mybook to my Dell 8300 desktop. Drive powers up, Blue light comes on steady. Windows prompts for drivers but can't find them. Tested the drive on an older PC and the drive connects fine... WD tech support said not their problem....
