Question about Palm Tungsten E Handheld

Resetting Palm Tungsten E

I have a Palm Tungsten E that I no longer want and am going to give it to a friend since his stopped working. I can't figure out how to get it back to the factory settings so that none of my information is on it so that my friend can do a hot sync with his info. We tried copying over mine and doing the sync at his house but it looked like it was going to over ride all the stuff on his computer with the things I had on my palm. I have tried resetting it, letting the battery go dead and nothing is getting me anywhere on this. So basically I need to have this be a new palm just like when I took it out of the box. Please help. Thanks

SOURCE: Tungsten E and Outlook 2003 sync problem

I also have encountered this: The issues, however, started after our enterprise at work switched the backoffice server from Win2K pro to 2003 server. All users received new Outlook profiles. I know there are hidden services for Palm bundled into the outlook profile so I simply edited the old profile to point to the new server and proceeded as follows: CPU was an HP Pavilion DV1000 laptop with Windows XP Pro SP2 with Outlook 2003 to a Palm Tungsten E PDA. Unit would not synchronize contacts or calendar, producing "Calendar Synchronization Failed" and "Contacts Synchronization failed" errors. Creating entries in outlook contacts and calendar did not show up on the Palm. Creating entries on the PDA did not show up in Outlook. To rule out windows profile corruption, I backed up the users profile data, deleted her windows profile and logged back in to create a new one, copied all of her favorites, documents and desktop information back to the new profile and tried again. No joy. I created a new palm profile to rule out issues with the users original Palm profile being corrupt or damaged. I verified the hotsync app was pointing to the correct palm and outlook profiles. To rule out issues with her outlook profile being corrupt or damaged I backed up her contact and calendar data, wiped that too and created an all new one and re-imported the contact data from a personal folder not connected to an exchange server. No change. I deinstalled and reinstalled the Palm software as well as the conduits for outlook. No change. I downloaded the new and improved conduits that were supposed to fix issues with outlook synch problems. No change. I finally backed up all of the data on her palm by creating a new outlook profile that was not connected to our exchange server at the company but rather a personal folder on the PC and once the data was saved there the data was imported back to the users mailbox. This didn't work but it allowed us to back up all the data on the palm and let us perform some experimentation with formatting the palm clean as a plate and trying anew with her account and profiles - no change. I found the errors only occurred when logged in as the user herself. If I logged in as me and started fresh from a reinitialized palm on her computer it would work. Amazing. I even found that creating a new local user account on the PC and pointing at her own outlook account on the mail server wouldn't work either.. But it would work for my own. After some brainstorming.... I believe that the issue is related to a corrupt e-mail box on the actual mailserver itself rather than an issue with the workstation or the palm itself since if I log in as myself, I can set it up and make it work. I can use a different account. It works. But it ALWAYS fails when we attempt to attach to the users mailbox on the server itself. So, some of these issues could be related to changes or problems on an Outlook mailbox th

SOURCE: How to change the default handler from Outlook to Palm desktop?

Change sync methods from outlook to palm desktop !!!!! Hi, There are two ways to change the sync methods : 1. Insert the installiation disc into the cd rom device , u will get a window called dicover ur handheld , there please check for change ur sync methods , and u will get another window sayin ur currently using microsoft outlook to sync , would u like to change to palm desktop , say yes and then u will get congrats , click on finish . To make sure it is changed from outlook to palm desktop , right click on hotsync manager at the bottom right corner of the pc , make sure only local usb has a check mark and then left click on custom , in custom check and see if u see calender [outlook] or just calender , if u just see calender , then presuming all the data is in handheld , highlight calender click on change and change the action to handheld overwrites desktop then click on ok , do the same for contact , tasks and memo then click on done and perform a hotsync. 2. Insert the disc , open up my computer , then u will see ur cd rom drive , right click on it and left click on explore , u will find yellow folders , please check for a yellow folder called post install , open that up and inside that u will find outlook switcher , left double click on it and follow the same procedure as told in the first step . Device got slightly & briefly wet this morning, despite hard metal case. Hard reset gives date/time screen & notice of low battery. Nothing else works including hard reset, charging, and on-off

I think palm will repair it.

My tungsten E won't turn on. If I do a soft reset it turns on then off immediately. I just charged it yesterday!

After back up your date you may perform hard reset, if issue still persists you can be sure that battery is no longer giving good performance. So you may consider replacing the battery.
If you need further assistance please post.
Good Luck
