Picture broken and shrinking

Picture on TV is off centre vertically and is receding in size and out of focus with horizontal lines through it the further down the screen it gets (shaped like an upsidedown triangle). If you knock the side of the tv the full picture will appear, however the horizontal lines continue in the bottom third of the screen.

You need to change your vertical IC, along with some capacitors around the vertical IC. Capacitor with value 220UF, 10uf, 470uf and finally 1000uf. Doing this will fix the set. Total cost under $40

The picture shouldbe free of vertical or horizontal lines.

If the lines are present on the TV screen, press the SMARTbutton. on the remote control and select Settings> SUPPORT > Picture Test.
This menu will appear on the test picture. Select whichoption best describes the result you have.

Picture shrinks horizontally every few seconds.

You are changing parts in the wrong circuit. The problem is in the vertical circuit. Look for the vertical IC and resolder the pins first. It should be an LA7837 or something similar. Also, check the 100ufd and 47ufd caps in the same circuit.

Picture on RCA TV shrinks to a horizontal line

Hello,
Sounds to me you have a cold solder joint ( loose solder connection ) on the printer circuit board around or on the vertical chip or on one of the vertical capacitors. You may also have a bad vertical chip or a bad vertical capacitor, but I doubt it since it did come and go. I'de get a soldering iron and some solder and touch up the connections. I will remind you that you need to always excersise saftey by making sure, before removing the back, unplug the TV from the wall, and use care not to come in contact with the large red wire going to the back of the picture tube as the picture tube can be turned off and still store lots of voltage ( up to 35,000 volts). Always stay safe and when soldering, use care not to run solder across places that will make a short.

Horizontal lines on picture

Can't advise on entering setup but the lines may be due to the maladjustment of the brightness control on the flyback. There will normally be two adjusters, one for focus the other for brightness.

Picture and text extend beyond screen

Your tv needs to be put into service mode with the original Sony remote control and then set the vertical\horizontal size parameter to the correct values and then burn the new settings to memory
Google " sony tv service mode " and you should find the procedure. Good Luck! Write back if you have problems.

LG colour TV RI32CZ10RX problem with picture

My LG tv has suddenly got a problem with the picture. Whilst watching the tv with no problems at all, the picture was suddenly reduced to a thin vertical line down the centre of the screen and an awful smell seemed to come from the tv There is a short ckt in your tv in horl. section. 1 isolate power from horizontal section. 2 check for normal output from power supply. 3 check parts in horl output section a hor.output transistor b diode & cap in h/output trnsformerckt. c check for print. d if all are ok check for eht transformer. e if every thing becomes then reconnect hor output section supply. f put on the set.

Since you can bang it to heal it some, try checking for cold solder joints. Caps and IC's next. Careful TV's store up to 3000 K volts unplugged. Enuff to kill.
