Problem with Jenn Air JFC2089HES temp control

When I set it to 0 freezer and 38 refrigerator it doesn't stay set. Pops to 11 freezer and 43 refrigerator. Ice is melting and refreezing into solid mass. Frozen foods have frost on them. Changed water filter recently, and that indicator is green.

If the fan is running you more than likely have a defrost problem.
look at the back wall of the freezer section if it is frosted up.
If it is frosted up. it's not defrosting.
There three components in this system. The defrost heater, the defrost termination stat., and the defrost timer. Newer refrigerators do not have a timer per say it is build into a electronic board usually mounted on the back of the refrigerator under a metal plate. The termination stat is the cheapest part @ $ 25.00. The heater should run @ 50.00 to 70.00. The board could be as much as 200.00 or more. If the refrigerator is over 10 years old you may wish to look into getting a replacement. Appliances are designed to start failing after 10 years old.
My opinion.
If you unplug the refrigerator let it defrost then plug it back in. it will work properly about 3 days before it frosts back up.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Fridge not keeping food cold.

When you open door to freezer do you hear a fan inside that compartment blowing? If you don't the fan motor is shot and will need to be replaced.

This is due to defrost not working in your unit.First Try the manual defrost reset procedure before replacing any part.------- First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. If the same problem occurs then it's defrost problem. The defrost board and the defrost thermostat/heater is not functioning properly and it has to be checked and replaced. ------------------------- to get required parts for your refrigerator you can get it from .This should help. Thanks.Helpmech.

Up is up and down is down......

What numbers is it changing back to? If you hear a fan that is good. Do you hear any 'clicking' by chance?

It is possible that for this, you may have a bad thermistor, but more information and or possibly an error code would help much more.

If the controls are the old style where you turn them and they have numbers on them the factory reccomended settings are right in the middle. If the control has an electronic display then freezer settings should be 0 degrees F and below and refridgerator should be 34 - 38 degrees F.

Jenn-air model # JFC2089HES...the freezer door will not open at all..please help

Shut the unit off or unplug it. There's probably ice formed inside preventing the door from opening. Is it frozen shut or can you open it a little? If you can open it a little something may have shifted, if so you may need an expert to come out and take a look

Setting the cooling setting up all the way will not help at all.Make sure your freezer and refrigerator controls are about the same setting. Temp. settings for refrigerator should be between at medium.. Freezer about 0 to -10.If it is a simple fix this will help.

I have a Jenn-Air side by side frig. The freezer side cools too cold, the frig side not enough. 2 weeks ago I took all the food out of freezer and noticed ice build up on back. I unplugged unit, let it...

If the freezer is staying cold it sounds like a defrost system problem. A bad timer, heater or thermostat can cause frost to build up on the coils and block air flow to the refrig side. Check out for troubleshooting the defroster problem.
There is a small duct between the freezer and refrigerator side if this is blocked the frig side won't cool.

Side by side freezer door pops open

This is a problem inherent with lots of refrigerators. Side by side or top freezer. The rush of air pops the doors. You might want to adjust the pitch of the box by adjusting the front wheels to a higher level.
