Generally the hinge will fall into a groove when lifted up. If it will not close you can generally lift the lid a bit higher and dislodge the hinge from these grooves and it should close.

Hi - If you are saying that the right side cartridge is the black cartrige that you have replaced, then I have two suggestions that may help. If the cartrige is a new HP genuine product I would take it back. If not, I would return the cartrige you have and buy a genuine HP for the printer. Though an expensive solution, there is always a chance of defects from either party. The remanufactured or refilled cartrige will have a date on it. The circuit board on these can wear out and then not be recognizable over time. Second suggestion if you have not already done this, a cotton swab or Q tip dipped in distilled water(damp only) to wipe down the circut board on the printer where the cartrige will connect to it, may help. Turn off the printer to do this. Make sure it is dry when you turn it on and reinstall the new cartrige. Hope this helps.
Take the scanner lid off by squeezing the plastic hinges inserted into the back of the cabinet. Take the top hinge of the cartridge door off with the 2 tork screws holding it, using a small screw driver. Go to a hardware store & pick up a pair of cabinet hinges no more than 2". (You need to buy a pair because they do not come separate) Place the new cabinet hinge on the back to the right of the bottom hinge of the base cabinet. Mark holes, drill one top, in the door, & 1 bottom cabinet, pilot holes. Check alignment & insert screws. Tighten the bottom screws. Leave a little slack in the top screws as they have to be a little off set to close completely. You will only need to open this Cartridge door to change cartriges, so, no sweat. My cost was under $5 for a pair of brass hinges, & my time, about an hour, taking my time. It's too bad HP won't supply their offset hinges. They are inexpensive & easy to replace. I've had my unit for exactly 4 years now, so this fix is a lot cheaper than buying a new one. Besides, I have ink already purchased that does not fit new printers.....go figure.... Aloha.
