Hi it could be something a simple as dust and if you use a blest of air will sometimes cure this problem also had the games been in the van aswell the other problem could bo one of two the first is it could have got damp over night and if this is the cse it will need to be stripped down and all teh board will need to be cleaned before it starts to corode.
the second problem could be if the unit has got to hto then the chances are it isnt going to be cheap to fix you probably wouldnt find the fault yourslef as you will need secialist equipment to test all the circuit equipment on the board to find the problem let me know how you get on.
The only cheap fix is to buy a damaged psp and replace the circuit board you might gt one from auction with damaged screen therefore the board might be ok let me know how you get on

My son's psp (the older fat version) has stopped reading discs

Not sure is this actual PSP or play station. If it is Play station It is very possible that there is problem with laser that reads disks. Try to by PSP cleaner and run it and this might fix the issue.

Psp not reading disks

One of two things:

1.Your UMDs are scratched or broken
2.Your PSP lens are malfunctioning

I suggest getting a different UMD, or, if the problem persists, replace the lens on your PSP.

Disks wont read

First try cleaning the lens. Mine got dust on it, and it stopped reading UMDs.

A little rubbing alcohol and a q tip and it might work.

use 70% alcohol to clean the lens. Use that stick that you clean your ears with. And use not to mush alcohol. Let the lens dry for 10 minutes and try to play a UMD disk again.

If that doesn't work and still under warranty just send it in and they'll fix it for you :) Good luck!

Psp making funny buzz noise and not reading umd disks.

Try a different UMD, it might be scratched. If not, take a soft cloth, and clean the lens. Look on google to see where the lens are located.

Psp(1001)won't read umd games or movies

If your PSP isn't reading games and/or movies and the problem isn't that your trying to play dirty, bent, or damaged UMD discs there are a number of other reasons your PSP is not reading disks correctly =

- Your UMD motor may be malfunctioning.
- Your laser may have worn down from use over time.
- Your UMD drive tray may be bent.
- There may be a foreign object in your UMD drive

Common symptoms

* disks fail to load
* extremely slow loading
* strange whirring noise when trying to read disks

Psp problem

if it doesnt read the disk,you may want to open it up (but voiding the warranty) and clean the UMD drive.
if it doesnt read just one UMD,it might be the disk.
if cleaning the UMD drive doesnt work,you may have to get a new drive,or a new psp.

Sony psp

have you tried various disks? certan disks may either be scratched or dusty so you coul take a can of compressed air and ust out both some umd's and the umd tray of the psp. also, if you're usuing a custom firmware, you may find it will work once you revert to an official firmware

Psp

Hi Jleew,

You should check to see if another UMD will work first.  Also try them in another PSP.  If your sure your PSP is not reading Discs, then and only then, Clean the Laser lens carefully.  Using a strong flashlight and magnifying glass, look into the UMD drive with the UMD door open and look for debris like hair or lint, and also dirt and dust.  A black switch pokes up on the left inside the UMD drive.  Its a little black stick.  When you press down on this Black stick, your UMD disc motor should spin for  second or two.  The UMD laser lens should light up when your press this switch.  If any of this does not happen, you need to replace the UMD drive. If you need someone to do this which if you have never done it, you need some knowledge big time.

I can do this for you if you're in the USA for $55 including a New UMD drive, REturn Shipping, and 90 day warranty. Contact [email protected]
