Question about Brother MFC 420CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Printing blank pages

I have looked over all of the similar problems and went through the fixes (cleaning) multiple times.

I have a brother MFC 420cn machine. Not connected to anything. Just use it to make copies. Recently, thing goes through the motions but comes up blank with a couple of very faint black lines.

Not able to follow any part of the solution as the steps described is not a function of the machine.

Did you run the cart initialization?
Try this: (use new carts because it consumes some ink)
press menue then start mono (blue) then fourtimes arrow up button (tel-index). machine will be in maintenance mode and lights will flash. press 7 then 6 then 4 then start mono. machine will refill tubes and ph with freh ink and do some cleaning.
Leave maintenace by pressing 9 then 9. Do run a quality test print by pressing ink etc. Iy you cant see the letters and colored blocks well the ph has to be replaced.
I guess your machine is a 2.5 years old. Unfurtunately brother ph didnt last longer than that time when useing generic ink.

Brother 420CN printer will not print black ink. Have replaced the cartridge and after several cleaning cycles, it still will not print properly. Test Print shows colors are fine but black ink is hit and...

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Display says: unable to clean refer to Maintenance Chapter of users guide (which I cannont locate) Printer is not printing,faxing, nor copying because of this.

Section 11-4 (page 123 of 200) refers to multiple error messages that will halt printing (including "unable to clean"). There are also a few pages following (to section 11-8, page 127 of 200) that give detailed illustrations of how to remove jammed items etc. from the unit.

In the end, the "cause" according to the manual is:

The MFC has a mechanical
problem.
—OR—
A foreign obstacle, such as a clip
or ripped paper, is in the MFC

... if there is paper jammed, you have a shot at fixing it yourself!

Black ink not printing

You need to clean the black printhead.

Try: Press the "ink" button the the lower left. Follow the direction to the cleaning page (by pressing up/down button).

If not resolved, your printer would probably need to be serviced. Hope this helps.

The black ink will not print on my Brother 420CN

Get a new printer. What probably happened, is that your printer went dry, meaning there was no ink left, and that wrecked the printing heads.

Brother mfc-420cn problem

Can you print from another programm? Or is it just MS Works? And can you scan into a programm? If you cant do either, there is a problem with the USB or network connection. Please check plugs and cable. Anyway, it could be helpful to reinstall the drivers, too.

Black Won't Print On MFC 420 CN

Use another new genuine (original brother) BK cart. Do the cleaning twice only for BK. Wait some time (4 hours). If the ink has dryed up, the cleaning ink will break up the dryed one. Do the cleaning again. If it doesnt work, please write again.
