The brushes will not turn even wen the switch is turned on

  • Legelegl51 May 06, 2011

Sounds like a common prob with Hoover SteamVacs. Ours did same thing...brushes won't spin. Husband took it a part and found the brush drive gear sheared down smoothe...no gear teeth left on it...of course Hoover said, "it's out of warranty because you opened the gear case..." convenient! You don't have to buy the whole gear assembly just get the small white gear...cost about $3 to $6 depending where you get it... problem solved!!!

How do I get the hood off of a Hoover SteamVac without breaking anything? I had one answer but a key word was replaced with *s and made it indecipherable.

To clean the brushes on a Hoover SteamVac without breaking anything, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off the SteamVac and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
  2. Locate the brushes: they are usually located under the unit near the front or in the back.
  3. Remove any debris or foreign objects from around the brushes.
  4. Use a small brush or toothbrush to gently clean the brushes of any dirt or debris. Be careful not to bend or break the brushes.
  5. Replace the brushes and reassemble the SteamVac.
  6. Plug the SteamVac back in and turn it on to test if it is working properly.
If the brushes are damaged or worn out, they may need to be replaced. It is also a good idea to refer to the owner's manual for specific instructions on how to clean and maintain the brushes on your model of Hoover SteamVac.

Hoover steam vac model f7425-900 filter is

The brush system on this model has a poor engineering design in that the brushes are running off an air turbine, which uses a steel bushing to spin the turbine which gets rusty from the moisture when the machine is being used. No long term solver. I would replace the machine with a Dirt Devil Platinum Force model

I have a hoover steamvac model # F5915-900 and the brushes are not turning when I turn the selector from off to low or high. I've checked to make sure the brushes are locked in place and they turn manually...

(1) Remove the brush assembly by pulling/unlatching it from base on each side.
(2) Does one of the brushes have the drive pin present? It should be about ¼ inch square, and two inches long. It attaches the brushes to the drive mechanism.
(3) Remove and clean the intake filter. One the base of the cleaner, behind the brushes, squeeze the two red abs together and pull the panel down to access the screen. Clean the hair/debris off the screen and reassemble.

Belt replacement Hoover carpet cleaner

Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.

Problems with the Hoover Steam vac Heated carpet cleaner

This happens when the filter on the inside of the lid for the dirty water tank is pushed all of the way up. You need to leave a 1/4 in. gap from the top to the top of the filter.
