This car has the automatic temperature control system

This car has the automatic climate control (temperature control)system in it. on all of the settings--A/C, vent, Max A/C, heater, defrost it only blows hot air and the temperature of the air can not be controlled. Changing the temperature setting by pushing the red or blue "rocker switch" on the top left corner doesn't seem to make a difference. The A/C compresser & other parts in the encine compartment, seem to get cold with condensation on them--but NO cold air comes into the passanger compartment. The fan is working ok, the fan speed control works ok & the air comes out of the appropiate places, IOW the floor vents, the dash vents, the defrost vents, etc. what needs to be done to this POC?

I found the ATC System self diagnostic procedure (or EATC) & preformed it on the car. It came back with a code of 024 (Blend Door Actuator Malfunction) 1st--where is the blend door actuator & how do you fix or replace it? Is it a "fixable" part & what might be wrong with it? electrical or vacum?

The hot/cold switch seems to be OK.

After running the diagnostic, I found a piston type of assembly on the right side, under the dash board and glove box, near the side kick panel & pushed the piston rod in. Your suggestion that it was under the dash & on the right side was the key. The Blend door moved its position & cold air came out thru the dashboard vents. since then the A/C has been pumping cold air into the car, whenever it is restarted--3 times now. This may be a temporary fix, don't know.

Any suggestions about this actuator would be appreciated

The vent, floor, defrost air diverter does not work. This seems to happen when the car is changing power settings which leeds me to believe it is the vacuum system.

The hot/cold switch is probably bad.you have a blend door box that opens to let the cold air in and closes to let the hot air in.From what you are saying this part is no responding to the switch movement.Make sure power is at the switch and power should go through the switch when put on cold air this moves the blend door. Some times the blend door goes bad and has to be replaced its under the dash on the right side.

Spray a little lubricant on the rod and piston,it might work for a while longer,if not,you should be able to make the change if it becomes necessary.

I replaced the heat blend actuator because I was not getting any heat. Now, after replacing, all I get is hot air and no cold. The A/C was working fine just before replacing.

Do you have Manual Climate Control System or Dual Automatic Temperature Control System ?
The temperature control switch:
  • is a potentiometer that outputs a variable voltage to the temperature blend door actuator to set the position of the temperature blend door.
  • initiates closing of the heater control valve. When set to full COOL, a lever on the temperature blend door pivot shaft depresses the pintle of the heater control valve vacuum switch. The heater control valve vacuum switch then applies vacuum to the heater control valve, closing off engine coolant flow to the heater core.
  • is serviced only with the climate control assembly.
You may have disturbed something when changing the actuator , the vacuum switch o vacuum hose .

How can you swap the manual climate control to automatic Climat Control?

You will not only need the automatic climate controls, you will need everything to make the system work. The main wiring harness, the electronic control actuators for the blend doors, automatic systems usually have a variable speed blower motor and solid state resistor, the temperature sensor. You would be better off trading your vehicle for one that came from the factory with climate control.

TOYOTA HIGHLANDER A/C CLIMATE CONTROL NOT FUNCTIONING

Based on the limited information provided, it would appear you have a bad climate control control board. This controls all heater/AC functions including climate control. If you're unable to change temperatures and/or fan speeds, the board is most likely bad and needs replacement.

Is there an adapter to convert an automatic temperature control to a manual one?

im afraid that you cant find any adapter to convert the system from auto to manual, the manual and automatic temperature control works completely different, the manual climate control controls the temperature and air distribution by vacuums lines and in the automatic climate control, controls the temperature and air distribution by a series of blend doors that works electronically
