Hi, the red light on my PS2 comes on steady when I switch the power ON but nothing happens when I push the buttons on the front of the console.
My father took the console apart awhile ago when it stopped reading our disks. The system made a clicking noise while trying to read the disk and then the "Disk read error" message appeared. I think my dad replaced the ribbon wire attached the the back of the buttons. The console hasn't worked since.
I took the system apart myself to clean the dust out of it and didn't see any obvious physical problems(melted or broken wires, etc.). I noticed 2 fuses in the left half of the system so I tested them with an ohms meter. They both had good continuity. I don't even know if they could have been related to my problem.
The PS2 I am having trouble with is one of the original ones that first came out. I bought another PS2 about 2 years after they started but I can't use it as a model for the first one because it is slightly different internally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
What if the ribbon wire riped how do i put it back
Sounds like the ribbon cable is ether damaged or not in the slot all the way.. that clicking sound you hear is common after extended use, all mine make the same sound ..try opening it up one more time and check the ribbon ends i know it's a pain but might be worth your time. pulling them out too hard can damage the ends.some time's putting them they seem like there in all the way but it might not be in straight.REMEMBER BENT FOLDED FLAT CABLES = problems.
