I cant charge my asus a6 notebook and i cant work out why, it just doesnt charge
You may not let battery go total out of power. Charger do not can't start charging if battery is totally dead.
Solution: take 2 wires 10cm take Asus charger and put wire to + and another to - then take your laptop battery and other end of wire to + contact and another to -, plug in charger and let it be 10 seconds, after that take wires off and put battery to laptop and charger to laptop plug. Voila' now orange light is on and charging starts.

I have also such a same computer, and I Had this problem also. This is a serial error of the computer!!! If you let it discharge completely, like leave in stand by until the battery runs out, than the charging doesn't starts anymore by itself. The battery isn't died, just it must be kicked in with an other charger. This is what the mechanic guy said to me in his letter, after he did it. So I don't know which legs must be charged, but it is possible to use still.

If the notebook works while plugged in the it is the battery. If more than a couple years old then it may need to be replaced. First try recalibrating the battery. There maybe a utility in the BIOS, CMOS, System Setup or in the control panel to do this. If not, see if there is a utility to download from the manufacturer's site.
If the laptop does not work at all then it is probably the power jack on the motherboard. This would have to be fixed by swapping out the motherboard, replacing the jack on it or taking to a local technician.
Hope this helps!
