When I turn the computer on the sp loading signal comes on and then I get an error message that says: "If you lost power or a virus, etc. then choose one of the following: safe mode, safe mode with networking.... but when I choose one, it just keeps returning to the same screen over and over and over
Try booting into safe mode completely. Then shut down completely. Unplug for a couple minutes and plug back in and see if it will boot normally. If not, then go back to safe mode and use a restore point in XP. If that does not work then either XP is corrupted or the hard drive is going bad. You can try restoring your system with the restore discs. NOTE: This will erase all data, pictures, letters, financial info, etc. you have saved.
If that does not work then you can try replacing the hard drive.
Hope this helps!

Try rebooting and hitting the F8 repeatedly as soon as the boot sequence starts. When it comes up to an options screen select repair. From there you can let windows try to repair or select to install to the factory settings.
one of the files in the system32 directory in the windows folder is corrupt, the files in the system32 folder contains vital files for the boot procedure, try to start the machine in "safe mode" by pressing F8 after the sony boot screen, if it allows you into the operating system you will need to choose "system Restore" take the time back to at least a week before your problems started DO NOT CREATE A RESTORE POINT
