I installed a refilled cartridge which has been leaking black toner and making a mess on my printing. When I tried to remove it I was unable to turn the lock on the right all of the way up to the unlock position. In consequence I am unable to remove the bad cartridge from the printer. Any ideas please?

You may have to force the cart to lock by hand. At worst you may break the cart but it is useless anyway.
Try to avoid as much toner leakage as possible and once out you will have to clean the inside of the machine. Do not vacuum the toner out - it can be dangerous.
In future, don't use refills.
