Washer ran for what seemed to be an inordinately long time. I wasn't really paying attention to the indicator lights (it had gone into yet another cycle) when I noticed it had stopped. I opened the door and water started pouring out.

Once I closed the door it locked.

No way to unlock it now.
I am about to try the lint/debris filter

This was exactly the case on my unit also.  Instead of the bucket however, I used a wet/dry vac...no mess!  The hardest part was to replace the three screws on the bottom of the panel.  Thanks!

Remove the bottom panel and right in front you will see the pump filter. Get a bucket and remove the filter cover, pull the strainer out and see if it's clogged with lint.

If the pressure switch on these models detects too much water in the tub (which you wouldn't be able to see) it will not go into a high spin. Check this first and see if it operates normally.

Machine lost power during wash cycle.

If the electricity does power off in the middle of washing cycles the washing machine will turn off then. Some of the most common problems that will make your washer turn off during mid cycle can include thermostat failure or issues filling up with water for the rinse cycles or even problems with the pump and the hose that can stop your washer from draining the water. You should call a person that fixes washing machines to have a look and see what the problem is with your washing machine.

My LG top load washer keeps stopping mid cycle- what could be wrong?

First rule out the simple points like to clean the filter for fluff or coins that may be interfering with pump. Secondly is the pump itself.

Affinity stops in the middle of a cycle a just shuts off no signal or anything?

use the following steps. God bless you

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

Water Inlet Valve

If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

If the washer stops mid-cycle the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other causes first such as the lid or door switch and other components.

Why would it stop mid cycle? You can hear the engine trying to start.

It is not the engine but the motor that makes the noise. perhaps it can be a mechanical issue that stops the machine at mid cycle due to friction on the drive or it can be due to faulty control panel or even a dirty/ clogged drain pump.

WASHING CYCLE STOPS AFTER A MINUTE

Can you skip through the programme to drain? Press pause button. then press start to move the lights down to the empty cycle. leave to finish.

If you have already tried this, I can explain how to put machine into engineer test mode, which will then give out a fault code to identify problem.
