Lens conversion I often use a telephoto lens or another type of lens such as a panoramic. I cannot get my camera to switch back to normal lens usage. I do have the Conversion Lens: OFF in the menu option. In the screen though my camera still shows W========T there is no other. Any suggestions? Usaually there is a line between the W and the T to show zoom conversion. I cannot get that back.

You may be able to get a 'tele-extender', which is a non-focusing supplementary lens which screws into the filter thread on your lens, but these normally only give between 1.2 and 1.5 times magnification, and are not optically very impressive.
1. What kind of pictures do you intend to take?
2. Do you mind a heavy leans? Some are 10 pounds or more.
3. Your budget.
The "standard kit lens" that most come with is perfectly good for general photography. If you want to take architectural pictures, you'll need something different. If you want wide landscapes, you will need a wide angle, and if you want wildlife/bird pictures, you'll want a telephoto lens. It all really depends on what you intend to do...
For example, I have a very wide lens I use for interior architectural pictures, medium telephoto for portraits, and a variety of long to very long telephotos for wildlife pictures...
Yes, there are some extreme zoom lenses that cover 'normal" to "very long" telephoto. They're expensive, not especially sharp, and very heavy. Everything is a compromise.
Some incredible or crazy mixes are always possible. (lens away from the camera, 2 lenses in series, with one in the reverse direction, etc...) Anything can be experimented. Just check the result is o.k.
Vivitar made several different 70-150mm lenses. If the lens has a T-mount then you can purchase a Nikon T-mount adapter and replace the Canon one on the lens. If the lens does not have a T-mount then you're out of luck. Nikon cameras have thicker bodies than Canon cameras, and an adapter would have to have negative physical size.
None of these Canon Powershot cameras have a lens which will remove. The ring is only for a special kind of add on lens for either wide angle or telephoto, which will only fit this camera or possibly a few other models.
Never try to unscrew the lens, you will ruin the lens permanently.
You are experiencing lack of communication between the shorter lens and the camera body. Since the longer lens works correctly the problem is in the other lens and not the camera body.
BTW-the numbers 62mm & 55mm are probably the filter sizes for each lens and not the focal lengths. Unscrew the filters and you will probably find a name ring on the lens signifying the type of lens it is(e.g. 28-80 or 70-200 or something like that.)
Look at the rear mount of the problem lens. There are some small metal(5-6) contacts there. Make sure the contacts are clean. If not, clean them with a soft rag or Q-tip. If they seem to be OK then there may be a problem inside the lens with the flexible printed circuit(FPC). The FPC may have been damaged somehow. If this is the problem take the lens to a competent repair shop and have them evaluate it. Depending on exactly which lens it is, it may be cheaper to replace the lens rather than repair it--but have it looked at anyway. Hope this helps.
It will not work because it is the wrong thread size.
Here is info on the Olympus TCON-17 lens for the 5050:
TCON-17 (1.7X) Telephoto Conversion Lens
Extend the capabilities of your digital camera with the TCON-17 Telephoto Converter lens. This telephoto lens will increase the magnification of your subject by 1.7x when your camera lens is set to the telephoto position. This will help you bring in the subject when you can't get closer, for example, shooting sports or concerts. Please see below for additional items required to attach this lens to your camera.
The following models require the CLA-1 and 43-55mm Step-Up Ring:
C-2000/2020/2040/3000/3020/3030/3040/4000/4040/5050 Zoom
.......
The video lens is too small (diameter). If you found one with a 43mm thread and put it on the 5050, you would experience severe vignetting (clipping of the corners of the photo).
