PanasonicToughbook CF-27: PCMCIA/USB 2.0 Card

Hi,
I need some help with my CF-27: Is there any PCMCIA/USB 2.0 card, that is really working? My DeLock Cardbus 2.0 installs properly and seems to work but freezes after 2 Minutes when I attach a device. No matter if WiFi or stick.
An Option UMTS/WiFi card however works fine.
Any hints?

CF-27 Type: 27EB6GCE3
Serial CYAA01005
Bios V2.00L10G

Thanks!
Helmut

Hi,
Unless you can use external power to the usb 2.0 pcmcia card, a CF-27 probly won't handle the load.
Their power adapters are only 15V and the unit itself is a P2 433 at best. It's just pulling too much power.
Sorry
Good luck

How can the usb port 1.1 be upgraded to 2.0?

Hi,

There might be man options :-

1. if your laptop has a PCMCIA slot you can buy a USB 2.0 PCMCIA adaptor.

2. You can purchase one USB 2.0 PC card ( from sites like ebay etc) with four ports. This lets you swap it around from laptop to laptop, depending upon which one might happen to need it at any given time (for backups to external HD, camera downloads, etc.). For most other purposes, like moving stuff to and from flash drives, it's really ok with the old 1.1 port. The only disadvantage of this solution is that the card is so large that it doesn't allow simultaneous use of a wifi card. The solution to this problem was to buy a USB-WiFi card. This was a bit steep, but we only needed one of them -- just for whichever PC happened to be using the USB 2 adapter.

Thanks.

Where do i attach a 802.11 g interally on a CF-27 toughbook?

Internal wireless adaptors are not made for generic use. Each motherboard used a different design to it. You will have to use a USB type adaptor.

Wireless network setup

Hi,

Based on your post, you currently have a working Netgear WiFi Card installed in your laptop. What you want to do is remove it from the laptop and install the said card to your desktop.

For your desktop to be able to accept the NetGear WFi card which is a PCMCIA Cardbus device, you need to install either:
1. a USB Adapter for PCMCIA as shown here; or
2. a CardBus/PCMCIA to PCI Adapter Card available here.

Either one will work. Of course you need to install the necessary drivers for the NetGear MA701NA in your desktop which is available from the CD installer that came with the NetGear or online here.

Considering the cost of the USB adapter or the PCMCIA to PCI card, you may want consider buying a PCI WiFi card or USB WiFi dongle.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Acer Aspire 5050 Notebook series suggested PCMCIA TV Tuner Card

Hi, Most brand/models will work for your laptop as long as the correct drivers are installed for the laptop's OS (Vista). One thing noticeable is slight heat build-up on most PCM CIA cards. On the other hand external TV via USB connection tend not to heat as much and does not load nor draw power from the laptop since they have their own power adapters. Both however will have a lower video quality compared to cable directly connected to TV connection. There are a number of models from AverMedia which should work straight out. My experience with Leadtek models has also been satisfactory so far. Hope this be of some help to you. Post back should you need additional information. good luck and kind regards.

My CompactFlash card is no longer recognized by my computer (Sony Vaio notebook w/Windows XP home edition)

It isn't clear from your description, but are you inserting the reader into your USB port, and *then* inserting the CF into the reader? If so, try reversing this -- insert the CF into the reader, then insert the reader (with the CF) into a USB port. It is possible that your PC is only looking at the reader once (when it is inserted) and not finding a CF, then ignoring the CF once you insert it. If your camera can read and write to the CF, then it is unlikely that the CF is damaged. Since you have determined that the reader is ok, and since your PC recognises the reader, it is unlikely that it is a USB driver problem. Similarly, it is unlikely that it is a physical problem with the USB port, or the pins in the reader or the CF card.
