No - only sp tapes. if you try an lp tape, it plays for about 2 seconds, then the deck ejects it.

Tapes don't load

Perhaps some physical damge to either the main mechanism or loading/carriage mechanism if you can't get a tape inside the unit. The power shut off is an automatic response, when the operation becomes comprimised.
