Error message reads...playback feature may not be available on this disc. Purchased a set of dvds on e-bay, and they will not play on this player. Other store-bought dvds play just fine. Contacted Emerson for an upgrade on the softwear and have heard nothing yet. Any other solutions besides buying a brand other than emerson!?!?

I have a Sanyo dvd/vcr player which says "disc error, remove disc, playback feature may not be available" on every disc, and even when there is no disc in the unit. How do I correct this. The DVD player is not reading any information.
If they are blank DVDs the playback feature will not be available until something is recorded on them,
If they are prerecorded discs, either the disc is not spinning, or the pickup is not reading the information.
dvd player will only play movies for the COUNTRY in which you purchased it. There is no way to purchase a system or configure a system to play ALL MEDIA FOR ALL COUNTRIES. The country codes are specific and each country wants to prevent any other country from playing their dvds music, etc.
some older dvd players dont play dvdrs very well, but most wont play dvd in pal format only ntsc some movies are recorded in pal, you can change format if you are using nero on the last stage wher you click burn choose ntsc
Make sure that the DVD Disc is of the format that your DVD recorder can read. For example, if your recorder specifically requires a DVD -R type disk, it will puke on a DVD +R disk.
the message you are getting is the machines waay of telling you that it can not read that disc. which means you will have to burn your discs in a different format. or your are using a type of disc it does not recognize.
In the manual there is a list of discs the unit wil play. On the last pages there is a quick reference. There are also region codes that need to be set. Maybe a power outage reset your settings. Also it would be good to know if this unit played disc previously, plays other disks? Or the discs play on other players. It could just be a dirt problem as well.
I had the same error message with my Magnavox MWD200F DVD player. I opened the DVD player and inserted a DVD and found that then DVD never started spinning. Here's how I fixed it. Remove any DVDs in the player then unplug it and flip it over. There should be a slot that is under the DVD tray on the underside of the DVD player. Move the wheel that can be seen through the slot a couple times with a small screw driver. Flip the DVD player back over then plug it in and try to play a DVD.
